yummy Mexican food, fresh and good portion w/ awesome value! after reading several reviews, i decided to give my first try to the 1 taco 1 enchilada combo... fish taco was bigger than any of the fish taco I've ever had... it's really good w/ the fresh tomato salsa on the top, but it got dry towards the end... the carne asada enchilada was AMAZING.. i love their carne asada!! black beans are good, and their rice is surprisingly good as well... yet to try their burrito and shrimp taco (some say the shrimp taco is better than the fish!) love their salsa bar... their salsa are all freshly made that you can taste... i literally see someone have one order to go but took like 10 small containers of salsa! it's that good! i wish they come w/ chips! we didn't order chips... next time we will!

I have been going there just about every week, and I've never been disappointed. Food and service have always been good. I will keep going back.

Inconspicuous little place in a strip mall, looks nothing out of the ordinary. I ordered the Baja Bowl with Carne Asada. The first thing that comes to mind is "Chipotle, but better." You really taste the freshness of the salsa and meat, and the seasoned rice is delicious. The portion is just right for a solid lunch.

Another one of our often visits for lunch at work, an alternative to Wahoo's. Their Rice is a hit or miss. Sometimes they are too watery and soft. Their portions of the tacos are bigger than Wahoo's. You do have an open salsa bar, which make this place more preferable. The place gets busy during lunch; I would recommend coming earlier like 11:30 or later like 1:00. Overall, a good place to add to your lunch selections if you find yourself standing in the parking lot for 15 minutes everyday during lunch deciding where to go with the coworkers.

We miss Tony. The current staff is not nearly as friendly as it was before. The customer service is going down the hill... We've been loyal customers of 3 of their locations for nearly 20 years and now it's just not a happy place like it used to be. Food is still good. But the Lake Forest staff is crabby. Hope Julio is looking into this. Still miss the blackened chicken btw. ;)

I love coming to this place. The food is on point and the wait is never long. Its not a super fancy place but it fills my belly with delicious steak tacos and burritos. My only advice is to not order too much. I often forget that I am ordering such quality and filling food and tend to buy too many tacos. I'm not one to pass on leftovers but the single Taco combo can fill you up fast. Besides the food they have a great selection of sodas. Not many eateries offer Jarritos so I was happy to see it there. The water to syrup ratio on the coke is also excellent at their fountain. Some places cant mix it right but this place is on the level.

Fantastic food. I don't know what they put into the rice but it's my favorite Mexican rice around. Come early for lunch (11:30-12:00) if you don't want to wait and to grab a table.

This is just about my very favorite 'fast food' restaurant. Besides being incredibly clean, the food is healthy, tasty and reasonably priced. Love the blackened fish salad and tacos.

It's 3.5 stars instead of 4 only because it seems so expensive. So I decided to check this place out since it is smack dab next to my work. I got two tacos plate. One regular fish and one chicken. All the food tasted freshly made. I really wanted an Ensenada style (beer battered and fried) since I just love El Taco Nazo/Senor Baja but I was trying to be a good girl and watch my calories. It came with a generous amount of rice and beans (your choice of black beans or pinto). The fish was flakey and light tasting. The chicken also tasted freshly grilled. All the veggies seemed cut fresh and the tacos were filled to the top with veggies! Their condiment bar, had whole jalapeno peppers, sliced vinegar onions, pico de gallo, red hot sauce, and green tomatillo sauce. I was wishing they had salsa verde since that is my fave sauce at any Mexican joint! The quantity was a lot more than Rubios! This is a perfect place for someone who really loves fresh and healthy food! For the plate and a medium drink cost me $9.75, yowza! To me that's a lot of money for lunch! Especially when times are tough. I would come eat here if gasoline wasn't such a rip off leading me to find cheaper joitns. For now, I'll leave this place be and frequent another time when someone else is buying lunch!

Would give it 5 stars but they charge for chips ... LAME . That'd be like Italian places charging for bread . The food is really good ... for fast mex it's about as good as it gets . Blackened Shrimp tacos are unreal and the pino beans are as good as it gets .

As close to perfection as it comes. Who doesn't love Baja Fish Tacos? This place makes incredible fish tacos, shrimp tacos, steak and chicken tacos and their beans cooked with lard to die for. Add some of the spicy pickled onions and pico de gallo from the condiment bar and you will realize why there is always a line out the door. I frequent the Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel locations which always has lines. The Santa Ana location is also good but expect long lines there for lunch to. When I want to treat myself I get the shrimp platter or steak platter. Trust me, this could be the best shrimp you have ever eaten; and at $12 the best bang for the buck.

I just got home from eating there. I just had the best shrimp burrito ever! The shrimp was tender and delicious and there was plenty of it. The prices are VERY reasonable for what you get. I can't wait til the next time I go!

Serving sublime fish tacos and other casual Mexican food, this tiny chain is Southern California's best kept secret. It's healthy, fresh, and tasty.

My friend LOVES Mexican food. I mean, so much, that she wants to marry it and have a thousand of its babies. She eats it every single day. So, when she told me to try this place because it has "the best Mexican food EVER"....well, guess what I did. I think I was expecting a little much. This is good compared to Wahoo's, and for Baja cuisine they do it really nicely, but it wasn't the best ever. We shared the chicken burrito combo. The burrito is enormous, way too much food for one human being to indulge in. My hubby and I split it and I was not hungry for many, many hours. The chicken inside was amazingly fresh and not dry. We got the burrito "wet" with the red sauce and that was just perfect, not too spicy. As other reviewers said, we found the black beans a little boring and "eh" but the rice was really good. It was buttery, like how the Wahoo's rice used to be before it got crap-a-fied somehow. It's much higher quality than fast food and the prices are a little higher, but the portions are generous which makes up for a lot. I'll definitely be back!!!

Very authentic fish tacos. I had the vegetarian taco and cheese enchilada, along with their black beans and rice. For Mexican fast food, I'd return here before Rubio's or La Salsa, or any other chain. My husband had the blackened fish taco and shrimp taco. He compared it authentic Baja MX style and said it was very good.

Okay, the place has great mexican, fresh ingredients, and a friendly staff. It is not a personal experience because the place is generally packed (for lunch, at least), but there is good reason. The line moves quickly, so don't be deterred. Of note: veggie burrito (get it wet, fo sho), unwrapped burrito with blackened shrimp, the fresca bar.

Baja Fish Taco's es muy bueno.... there's so much pride in me being able to say that to you in espanol because it puts to use my 3+ years of high school Spanish.... it wasn't a total waste like metal shop or ceramics class (I can make an ash tray). When I go up to order my "1 taco 1 enchilada" combo, I'm immediately bombarded with several potentially meal altering questions such as (Q): type of meat for your 1. taco and 2. enchilada, black or pinto, green sauce or red sauce, drink or no drink, chips'n'salsa, blonde or brunette.... or something like that, but what makes this process even harder is that I'm here on an empty stomach (esp. with no breakfast) during my lunch break from work where I start off with very little brain activity. This can put some undue pressure on me because this place is often very busy for lunch and has a small, but rapidly moving line that forms right out the front door.... rapid if you answer quickly. Now for the meat and beans of my review. This is one of the best Baja style restaurants out there! I've been here several times now, and it's always consistently good. You can't even compare it to Wahoo's (I don't like Wahoo's at all), and this place delivers great food for a very reasonable price - $6.95. Like everybody says, the rice is really good. I love the fluffy goodness of the rice, and the carne asada is my first pick although I have tried the fish, but I I prefer the carne asada which translated means "superior meat than anything the Norwegians can do" (actually it means "roasted meat"). The service also doesn't lag behind either and it's definitely on the friendly and personable side - I have to think that the management/owner must be doing a great job. (A): 1.carne asada, 2.carne asada, black, red, yes (ice tea - self serve), no thank you, and definitely brunettes

  • Brooke C.

I had never eaten here but every time I drive by on my way to or from work the place seems to be packed! So I tried it and now I know why. I went at a time that was not too busy. The guy behind the counter was super friendly and even offered me a sample of one of the styles of fish so I could try before I buy. The grilled fish tacos I choose were to die for. The perfect amount of cheese, cabbage and sauce. I love that they use Hawaiian Ono because it is not very common. I would definitely recommend this location and will be back soon myself : )

The 20 person line out the door at lunch time should be your first indication that this place rocks. I get the Ensenada fish tacos combo every time. The fish is lightly breaded so its not as greasy and gross as some other chain taco places (I'm looking at you Rubios!) The pinto beans and rice are sublime although there is probably a stick of butter in each one of them. I've also tried the carne asada and a few different enchiladas, but nothing can touch the fish tacos.

I had lunch here about 5 years ago, and up until a month ago I've been thinking about that rice! I don't know what they do, but they must add crack to it because it's highly addictive! Everything I've had here is SO good! I don't know why anyone would even compare this place to Wahoos or Rubios because Baja Fish Tacos SLAPS on most "baja style" mexican food i've had! The portions are huge! The shrimp is to die for! I usually get the shrimp enchilada combo with green sauce and black beans! SO good! They don't skimp on the shrimp . . . i'd say each enchilada usually has like 8 huge shrimp in it! And I don't know what they cook it in, but it keeps me coming back for more! All the people that work there are super friendly and your food usually comes out pretty fast after you order it. Plenty of seating, and a great salsa bar! Gets super crowded at lunch!

  • Julie Y.

OK - this place is now consistently good! Fish portions are amazing for the price and they are as fast as fast can be! I love hitting this place when I am heading to San Diego - it is my half way point and just off the Lake Forest exit! Great spot and yummy!

  • William K.

Pretty good food for a fast food Tacqueria. The Carne Asada Burrito with Red Sauce and Cheese on top is a 5 star meal. Really good. They limit their menu to the basic stuff so it's a great place for a quick lunch or take out.

  • Bill H.

Pretty competent american/mexican food, not really sure what all the fuss is about. 20 people in line when got there, noramlly I would turn around and go somewhere else but it was a friends birthday so we stuck it out. I got the blackened fish burrito. Wahoos is better, definitely spicier as are the spicy white beans. Overall it's ok but I don't see a reason to go through the line again.

  • Hoang T.

Okay so this place is pretty decent but you got to just go here expecting great fish taco's of course. I would recommend the blackened fish. I love the flavor that is squeezed out of that taco. The rest are okay. This was actually my top mexican spot in Lake Forest until I discovered Cafe Rio. See that review!

It is definitely the best and healthiest Mexican food in Orange County. All my friends and family and neighbors love this place. We go there all the time. Chipotle used to be my favorite until I discovered this place several years ago. I recommend the combo with a taco and a chicken enchilada with red sauce, and the combos come with rice. Their rice is the best rice I've ever had. If you go during lunch hour or dinner, the place is usually packed, but the line moves quickly. The service and cleanliness is great. This is a place you can go casual or for a business meeting. The photos that others posted of the food is accurate.

  • Crystal B.

This place is pure grub! Great shrimp tacos, carne asada, and unwrapped burrito. I'm a regular here and if I go too long without a visit, I start having withdraws. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is bc their chips are inconsistent, usually d-lish but today there were stale. Is a great place for lunch, but try to avoid the 12-2pm rush.

For a franchise, Baja really impressed me. Californianized Mexican made with fresh ingredients, at affordable prices. The menu and concept of this place reminds me of Wahoos and Rubio's, but I have to say that Baja is a slight step above them both. I luckily discovered this when looking for a place near Laguna Niguel to grab a casual lunch. We ordered the two tacos combo plate with blackened fish, which came with white rice and black beans per our choice, and the Baja salad with grilled chicken. The fish tacos were piled high with nicely charred yet still tender white-fleshed fish, cabbage slaw, cilantro and tomato salsa. Add a squirt of lime and some of the salsa verde from their little salsa bar, and you really couldn't ask for more from a grilled fish taco. I was also surprised by how fresh the small corn tortillas tasted, and appreciated that they didn't fall apart or crack at all. The generously portioned Baja salad was also very fresh and surprisingly filling - full of fat slices of avocado and tomatoes, and what seemed like an entire chicken breast nicely chopped into cubes. The champagne vinaigrette I opted for on the side was also a pleasant surprise as the light tangyness really complemented the fresh cucumber, corn, and radish in the salad. We walked out totally full and happy - and only down about $20. This place was a great find for sure!

First time I had heard of this place, I got this confused with Baja Fresh. And let me just say that when you eat at Baja Fish Tacos, there is no mistaking that it is not a Baja Fresh. The biggest difference between Baja FISH Tacos and Baja FRESH is that Baja Fresh sucks. I mean, it really sucks. Baja Fish Tacos is the kind of place that you wish were right around the corner of the house so you can walk to it, eat a meal and walk back. I've had the fish enchiladas, fish tacos, steak and chicken tacos, carne asada and fish burritos. Of all the things I listed, I would say that surprising the fish enchiladas were the weakest. It would be better, in my opinion, to flake off the fish and incorporate it in the enchilada rather than taken a corn tortilla, wrapping it around a piece of fish and throwing sauce on it. But then again, everything else I've had has been very, very good. The salsa there has got the right seasoning, acidity, and onions. Perfect for a side of chips and salsa. It's very crowded during lunch time during the week, so arrive early, or after 1:30PM. I'm really happy my co-workers introduced me to this place because I have not left unhappy in all the times I've eaten here.

I had forgotten about this joint but recently rediscovered it with some invaluable assistance and it's a new favorite. It's a totally chill place where you can just chow or kick back with some brew and catch the game on the few flat-screen TV's. I'll go ahead and say it: yes it's similar to another popular local fish taco franchise but unlike dating sisters, liking one does not mean you can't enjoy the other. What they do well: I order the shrimp tacos every time I go. They're well seasoned, flavorful and you get shrimp in every bite. They're wrapped in a soft flour tortilla and filled with crunchy cabbage instead of lettuce. I favor blackened fish tacos over grilled, which seems plain, but fortunately the excellent salsa bar can cure any shortage of flavor. They make a solid pico de gallo. And don't forget the very reasonably priced beer of the month special- only one choice but always drinkable. With all of this, you may be able to smooth things out with both sisters and bring them both in here!

Southern Californian surfers are credited with having stolen Mexico's idea of fish tacos, and thankfully so. If you ever take the opportunity to visit one of several Baja Fish Taco locations in Orange County, you will be forever thankful to enterprising young surf-bums, who's southward migrations into Encenitas, Baja spawned a sub-genre of Mexican fast-casual diners here in the U.S. Call them thieves; I prefer to credit them with entrepreneurial savvy. Everything I've tried off their menu is superb. I highly recommend the shrimp and/or carne asada tacos. For the aspiring next host of "Man vs. Food', order 'with a meal', and begin preparing yourself for mass-consumption. My compliments to the surfer dude in the kitchen ladling generous amounts of cream sauce onto my twin-tortilla, Encenitas-style tacos. Whoa! Dude! Easy on the cabbage! After experiencing Baja Fish Tacos, Wahoos and Chronic can only be compared to chewing on a damp rag, wrapped in a tortilla, while in a drug induced, partial coma, surrounded by teen skate rebels.

The service here is so rude. We placed our order, and the rude lady who was wearing excessive makeup and was kind of hard to understand, rushed me through the order even though I knew what I was ordering! Once I finally got my order, the lady told me to move my drink instead of asking me to move it. All around rudeness. Had the food been to die for, hell even remotely good then I would have endured the crappy service. I got the 2 taco plate, 1 blackened fish, 1 shrimp (which you are charged extra), white rice and black beans and chips (which are extra) and it was $12 ! Are you kidding me ? Either way, it was okay food w/ horrible service and expensive.

Before I get started, a quick note ... I have a secret for all of the people that gave this place a 1 or 2 star rating. Nobody likes you. You are, most likely, picky, narcissistic whiners. Sure all the people that you know SAY they like you, but its only because they don't want to deal with your petty snarkiness when you and their other friends hang out. Secretly, when all your "friends" get together, and you aren't there, they say, "Well its too bad (insert your name here) couldn't come." Then they all double over with laughter. Somehow you think there is a line out the door and its everyone ELSE who is mistaken. Yeah ... moving on ... I love fish tacos. I get fish tacos everywhere I go. About a year ago a friend told me to try Baja and told me they were the best fish tacos in the world ... uh huh ... right. If you are looking to eat fish tacos, because the fish is off the charts good, then, you aren't too bright. You can't taste the fish that much in ANY taco (unless the fish is Salmon ... which doesn't belong in tacos). The fish is good, the cabbage is good, and the sauce is so good I nearly cry tears of joy when I eat it. Put all of it together ... and ... voila ... the best fish taco ever. The magic of fish taco is the combination of ALL the ingredients. I prefer the fried fish, but my wife prefers the grilled fish. Either way ... its fantastic. As to the rice and beans, my wife is still waiting for them to come out with a combo platter that doesn't have an entree so she can just eat the rice and beans. They are great. They cook the rice with a touch of butter. More to the point, they cook the beans with lard (I would venture to guess) and it is glorious. GLORIOUS!! Its so good, it makes me hate health food advocates even more. I cook with actual lard now, because food tastes so much better with it. Sure I'll die sooner than other people, but the years I lose will be the ones at the end. The ones where I can't remember my name, poop my pants, and have to wear a colostomy bag. I can do without those years anyway. Finally, if you go to Baja FISH TACOS and order the BEEF ENCHILADA, you are an idiot ... an illiterate idiot. UNLESS, its your first time there and you order the two item combo and the OTHER item is a fish taco (thats the mistake I made the first time I was there). In that case, you may be forgiven your enchilada oversight. If you are saying to yourself, "But Scott, I don't like fish tacos." Then I have a couple quick notes for you. There is a Del Taco across the street, maybe you shouldn't even try a place called BAJA FISH TACOS rocket scientist, and the first paragraph may apply to you also.

I love this place because it's next to work and i love fish tacos. I do wish it could be a little cheaper so i can eat there more to be quite honest! Try it out! The line gets pretty ridiculous during lunch and seats are limited so be prepared to wait.

  • Jacob R.

My review is solely based on the fact that my friends/co-workers and I have gotten sick eating the shrimp from this place on 3 separate occasions. With that being the case, and with the amount of people that go here (line out the door everyday at lunch time), I can't believe that there aren't any other reviews like this yet.

  • Kimberley H.

I don't come here all that often because of the cost and if my husband is going to eat Mexican food, he wants carnitas, but I always love the food. Typically we get our food to eat in and I love it. Always consistent, always fresh, always plentiful and I always wind up with leftovers. I also love their chips and salsa bar. We went there for dinner tonight because it seems the most appropriate meal type to have before a big ham dinner tomorrow night, but we got it to go since we live nearby. And our food was GREAT. I always get double rice and no beans because I love their rice. But here is my one complaint - WHY NO CHIPS WHEN YOU GET IT TO GO? I mean seriously? If you give them for dining in, why not to go? I could have sworn they used to, but we didn't get them tonight. It just seems like for the cost of the meals, chips should be included. But aside from that, I love their food and always get a smile when I place my order.

I think this is why I don't live in Lake Forest or south county anymore... because a little bit of bland goes a long way in this town. I mean look at all those 5 star reviews!! I work by here and stopped in today. All signs pointed to 4-5 star - the place was packed and there was a 7 person line out the door.... But no, not too impressed. I got the two taco combo - two ensenada style breaded fish tacos rice and beans. Rice=white=me no likey. Refried beans=super watery and bland=me no likey. Fish Taco's=cabbage and crema mexicana only=not too great. It was OK but not my favs and certainly not worth the cost :/ sorry baja fish tacos...If you love rubios, baja fresh, chipotle, or any other gringo Mexican place, you'll probably love it.

I went here with a few coworkers for lunch one day. I was under the impression we were on our way to Baja Fresh, boy was I pleasantly surprised when I realized we were nowhere close to a Baja Fresh! I got the blackened fish tacos which came with rice and beans. My meal was really good, the rice and black beans were very tasty too. The fish in my tacos was nice and moist and hot, the taco was so loaded with salad and filling I could barely eat it and had to eat most of the toppings before I could dig into it like a normal soft taco. The salsa bar is pure magic with a roasted salsa, a spicy one, a green one and a mild for the wussies out there. Peace, love and fish tacos!

We stopped in here for a quick bite as it was very close and had a good yelp rating. Turns out this place is awesome, just like the reviews claimed. The Taco was big and the enchilada was huge. Delicious rice and beans in large portions too! We will be back soon!

BEST VALUE FOR YOUR MONEY ! For $5.00, you can get 1-taco combo plate which comes with your choice of taco - I always choose between blackened fish or ensenda style fish - plus hepping portions of rice and either black or pinto beans ! The, you walk over to the awesome salsa bar and you can customize the favors on your plate with either spicy red or tasty green salsas, cut cilantro, pickled onions, whole jalapenos, bountiful pico de galo. My plate ends up resembling a salad bar as I take a spoon of cilantro and sprinkle over my rice. I take two spoons of pico de galo over my rice. i add three spoons of either red or green salsa over the rice and finish with 1 or 2 spoons of the other salsa on my taco ... wow - my mouth is then in flavor heaven ! I leave happy with large meal at a wallet-friendly price ;-) Plus the staff are always excellent - friendly and smiling ...

This place is all about the blackened fish / shrimp. Their blackened fish taco/burrito is the best I've ever had. Try one of the following: - A Blackened fish burrito (my favorite) similar to the taco but with guacamole :) - 1 blackened fish & 1 shrimp taco (the cheese on this is amazing) - The shrimp burrito Lastly... when at a fish place... ORDER THE FISH! I'm not saying the other stuff is bad, but I'm all about what's best to order at a particular place and that's definitely the fish/shrimp here.

I love this place! Their black beans and white rice rocks. I always get the blackened fish tacos or chicken taco combo. Salsa bar is always fresh and stocked. I like this place better than Wahoo's without a doubt. And you can substitute a salad for the rice and beans if you want.

I always order pick-up for lunch. I love their quality of meat. I usual order their one taco combo for lunch (carne asada), comes with white rice and beans. Other times I get their enchilada with taco. They always give huge side portions. Sometimes I even come in here for dinner. Love Baja Fish Tacos!

Almost 14 bucks for a Burrito and a drink. Seriously? Okay, granted, the blackened fish was pretty good, but that's the only real saving grace. Ridiculously long lines... why? it's not THAT great. I don't get it. Almost Fourteen freakin Bucks! The hell??

I frequent this place for lunch, in fact went here today! It's ALWAYS crowded for lunch, but surprisingly, the service is super quick! All the tacos are amazing. The tortillas for your tacos are perfect- you get 2 and they're pretty thin but still do its job of holding all the tacos contents and it never falls apart! Every meat selection is perfectly seasoned. This place reminds me of a Wahoos in terms of fresh mexican food, but a huge upgrade. The food just tastes and even looks fresher! I've tried the enchiladas and they're pretty good too. They use that soft white mexican cheese. Salsa bar has small salsa cups. BOO! But, at this place the flavors of each dish hold their own that you dont need to cover it all in salsa and spice.

Ah, Baja Fish Tacos, the kind of Mexican that doesn't make you feel sick after the fact! Anyways, I LOVE Baja! You step in, and you are greeted with an incredibly fast talking mexican that could just be on drugs, but, it's a good thing because the lines move fast! No matter how busy it is you can almost always find a seat, and the place is not out dated, it is quite the opposite! They have an amazing salsa bar that you have to take a look at! Then the food comes. Even better, it's on real plates! I usually get a carne asada burrito combo wet with green sauce.(greenis spicy, red is mild). The meat is not chewy at all and is extremely flavorful. I believe there is actually guacamole in it too! The rice and pinto beans are delicious as well. I can tell you the shrimp tacos and burrito are great, as well as the fish tacos. Also the quesadillas are so good! And you have to get chips!! So good, this is a must have place!

Best carne asada I've ever had...food is always delicious and fresh

  • Jen P.

I work down the street and literally crave this every single day! The food is soo good. I've tried everything. The blackened fish tacos and carne asada are the bomb. Seriously. The rice is so freaking good, they put crack in there. The pico de gallo is even good and I despise cilantro. I've even had the carne asada salad. So good, but try to place your order over the phone because the long is SUPER long during lunch and dinner.

Think of this place as a better version of Wahoo's. The food is better, but slightly more expensive.

  • Hiromi I.

This is definitely my most favorite fish taco place in the entire OC! Since I lived in Lake Forest, I used to go to this location at lot but their Laguna Niguel location is definitely comparable (a little bigger) and South Coast location is not too bad either. I'm not a big fan of Wahoo and other major chain taco places after eating here. Fish is definitely bigger, not too dry, and very flavorful. All rice order comes in seasoned rice. It's great. I love it!! They have the best pinto beans. No problem with parking. They always seem to have people around but never too crowded.

Favorite place for fish tacos. Big tacos and excellent salsa.

  • Turia S.

Their Ensanada Fish Tacos are perfection! Always fresh, cooked perfectly and very generous portions! Carne Asada is tender and flavorful. Best fresh guacamole, too!

  • Amanda P.

I work right next to this place. I have probably eaten there 50+ times. It is always consistent and always delicious. I get the one taco combo. It's the best, because you get the amazing rice and the juicy tender carna asada! This place is super busy during the lunch hour so I try to go after 1:30. Regardless, service is always great! Give this place a try!

One of the few times I've been lead astray by the Yelp reviews. I give this a 2.5. I got the baja style fish tacos and the husband got the carne asada platter. Here's what I used to arrive at my rating: The best fish tacos I've ever had in my life, hands down, is a joint called Shanghai Red's Oyster Bar in Palm Springs of all places. When I can't make it there, there's Chronic Tacos. And when I can't get to Chronic Tacos, Rubio's is my alternative. My 2.5 stars is based on comparison with Rubio's tacos (apples to apples) which has nice chunks of breaded white fish for a fast food restaurant. The fish pieces at this place were small, hard, and managed to be soggy at the same time. It was piled with cabbage which was okay but it overwhelmed the fish. Took a few bites of the carne asada which was average, 3 stars.

love the food here. Im easy to please so i like the pinto bean and cheese burrito with chicken and the jalapenos and green salsa. the blackened fish is yummy and the salads and bowls are great too. they have good deals on beer.

    (4)
  • Elisa W.

They also have a location in Costa Mesa. I have tried a lot of the menu items and I think the blackened fish and carne asada are the best! YUM and the price is very good for what you get!

We've gone there for years...and now I am finally writing a review. This is definitely better all the other chain Mexican places, I wish there was one closer to home. We stop there often when driving to LA from SD, or vice versa. It's very easily accessible from the freeway and we have never been disappointed with the food. We always get the fish bowl--white fish over a bed of white rice, beans (you can choose the type), lettuce and pico de gallo (the BEST). It's a much healthier version than Chipotle--or at least it seems like it because of the fish. Never got anything else on the menu because we are always satisfied. However, when we see other people order different types of food, it looks delicious! Service is always with a smile. Tip: Sunday nights are buy 1 get 1 free beer nights, pairs nicely with the food.

Just discovered this restaurant and have gone back twice! Love the shrimp platter the rice is great too. They're very busy all the time, I wish I had found it sooner. I just found out that they are opening a new location on Mission Viejo, which is terrific! It's my new favorite taco fix.

Tasty food and very clean, a little loud inside at rush hours but I find it better then wahoos.

  • Matt M.

We have been coming here for awhile based on the good quality of the food and the prices. For awhile, they were doing 2 for 1 beers. They did away with that deal, but now beer is only $2.50. RYKM? The enchiladas, tacos and burritos are all great. Make sure to check out the crazy masks that they have up on the wall. I also find that mixing the salsas together from the salsa bar renders the best results. If you are in the area and are jonsing for some great food and very reasonable prices, no better place than Baja Fish Tacos.

Just like the other one on crown valley, it's great food. Super friendly staff. Quality food. Go there and have a good meal instead of eating fast food and you will walk out full and happy.

  • Al Y.

The food is very good food. As far as portion wise I wish it was a little more filling, but it wasn't too bad either. Perhaps if you order a drink with your meal you would be full. Their shrimp platter is my favorite but it's 12 dollars. I think they could do a little bit on the price range.

Great place! They got my favorite fish tacos anywhere around the OC. Again, I'll criticize the other reviews! Its fast food Mexican. Its fast food Mexican. Its fast food Mexican. You'll have plenty of quality and quantity for what you pay! This is what bugs me sometimes about reading other reviews on yelp. We got all these food experts that talk a lot of non-sense. Me personally, I eat at home a lot...its a nice treat to eat out. No cooking and dishes! My rating are either GOOD or BAD. No shades of gray. This place is well worth my money. I have quality and quantity for what I pay for. I love their tacos, burritos, beans, rice, etc. The pieces of fish in their tacos are way bigger than wahoos and tastes better. Two thumbs up. If you want to dine in its a comfortable place for that too, they have several plasmas on the wall, beer, salsa bar, etc's too.

"have to come for the rice..." I'm that turrible creature of habit that has been ordering the same thing at this place since I first came: 2 enchalada plate - carne asada beef, white rice, and black beans. I don't even know how much I pay for this plate, but I have to have it. Never go refried again after tasting these whole beans, and the rice is probably the best rice I have ever tasted - no one even attempts to reproduce because it can't be done, which includes me, so have to come for the rice... which have a light buttery pinch of salt flavor that can't be matched with other white rices using just tap H2o to soak. The portions on this dish are also perfect, definately worth the money! (at what ever price I've been paying). Best advice: Come here when it opens at 11:00 am, or you'll be sharing that "open the door duty" with the others who couldn't get an early lunch.

This place really hits the spot. Fresh made baja style. This location seasons the grilled fish and carne asada perfectly each time. They can get very crowded at lunch, with good reason. Everything I have eaten is delicious. They have healthy options and cater to your requests at ordering. The guac and salsa are freshly made all day long and are the best you can get! MUST HAVE: guacamole, fish taco, salsa, and pinto beans

    (5)
  • Shannon G.

Yummy but expensive. Try the shrimp. Don't get the combo you don't need the beans and rice thats just junk.

  • Jeremy A.

I love coming here for lunch. I call in my order and the food is ready in 10 min. I always get the grilled fish plate, which is amazing. I think alot of people can agree Baja Fish is known for their rice which is very fluffy with a subtle buttery flavor.

I like this place, maybe even better than Wahoos. Make sure you get here early or call ahead for pickup - it's definitely a timesaver as lunch time is super busy here. Love hte grilled fish option!

  • Mimi S.

The food is always consistent and very good! Not the MOST authentic Mexican food in the neighborhood, but very tasty and fulfills my cravings for it. Their fish is always fresh and the carne asada is seasoned just right. They have the VERY BEST homemade guacamole and chips. Those are a must if you come here. The rice is also sooooo good that I could just eat that and be completely satisfied. If you don't like this place, then go back to Taco Bell :P

  • David H.

Love the fact they give you REAL PLATES and forks...... It is a nice touch, since I tend to break most plastic options...... I love the 1 chicken Taco with a salad instead of rice and beans......Thier chips are always warm and fresh, with the green sauce ..... AMAZING. I eat here 3/5 days a week at work!!

  • Alyssa M.

I love their carne asada its really good especailly with the awesome rice and beans. I could eat there everyday and not get sick of it. :) The waiters there are friendly so that helps too! I LOVE THEIR FOOD. Im not going to lie they have some pretty bomb beans. I really recommend this place if you dont want a too facy or high priced meal. Its pretty cheap too. I usually get a 1 or 2 taco combo it comes with rice and beans for about 6 bucks. And they arent greedy with their rice and beans fyi.

I usually go to the Costa Mesa location. Came here to get to-go lunch with hubby when we were in the area for car service. Same good quality food & fast and friendly service! What more can you ask for!

  • Zoe M.

Had late lunch there lately, after a meeting I was starving! Had my favorite Fish bowl, but I was a bit disappointed. Fish was O.K., but the rice was bad, overcooked, and if I remember correctly the last time it was the rice that spoiled the whole experience, and the fact that the restaurant was messy, dirty floors, bathroom and the salsa counter! It is not a bad place to eat, priced right, as far as quality of food is O.K. for this type of fast food Mexican restaurant. They bring food to your table which is nice! Is one of the good places to eat,in the area especially lunch!

ive been eating here on and off for 6 years. their food is consistently made well and their in-house service is pretty amazing given the volume of customers. their waitresses and staff in general are very customer driven which reflects on the overall experience. their blackened fish burrito is one of a kind and i find myself handling the red wet carne asada burrito quite frequently. even their chicken soft tacos...yum. good food, good atmosphere, just a bit of disconnect with the staff due to their allegiance to operations. stellar chips and salsa btw. not to mention guac. great food from a modest restaurant.

Will stop every time for the ensenada fish taco and I don't even like fish tacos! Delicious, fresh food. A must try. There's a reason the line is out the door.

I'll stick to Taco Mesa from now on. I came here and ordered a two-taco combo, one with shrimp and one with fish. They gave me chicken instead of fish, and the chicken was dry and tasteless. The shrimp taco had more flavor, but the shrimp didn't taste fresh, and there was a weird salty taste even beyond the fishy taste of the shrimp. I don't understand all the great reviews.

I'll admit I was skeptical of such high ratings for a chain taco place, but my visit here was not a disappointment. We beat the rush for a Saturday lunch. By the time we left, the place was filled with guests waiting for an open table. My bf and I both ordered the two taco plate with carne asada and the blackened fish tacos. The combo comes with beans (black or pinto) and rice. They have a (very clean) salsa bar with quite a variety, even though our tacos came with a good amount of tomatoes and lettuce on top. I added some salsa and it was perfect. My favorite of the two was the carne asada, surprisingly. There was an abundance of meat and it was so tender and not fatty at all. Very well flavored as well. The blackened fish taco was not as good in my opinion. It was a bit bland and overcooked. The rice and beans were a good addition to the tacos. Everything tastes very fresh and made to order. Parking was easy. I'm sure we'll be back if we're in the area or give another one of their chain stores a chance.

Always good, authentic Mexicali food. I go to school at CSUN in the valley, and have to eat here if I come home on a weekend. I crave it all of the time! Chicken enchiladas are the best I've had.

  • Steve R.

Not happy that they are now charging $1.50 to refill your chips!!! If I ordered chips and salsa... I would expect a refill! Too bad too bc I liked this place, but there are other options out there where they don't get stingy about chips. Might not be a big deal for most, but kinda sucks to nickel and dime chip refills.

This place is a definite must at anytime of the day or night. You can always find some type of law enforcement here, so you know it is good. Hahaha The Chicken Tacos and Fish tacos are huge and oh so tasteful. Is normally a 5 taco order for us. They have yet to mess up a single order out of 10 ' of times we have been here. No cheese, No Baja Sauce with chips and salsa. Oh man, so good especially paired with the chips and salsa. This place has 2 TV ' normally with the news or sports on so it's a nice place to relax. Great happy hour drinks and extremely friendly and helpful staff.

  • Angeline K.

Yum. The shrimp tacos are awesome, as is the tomatillo sauce (not too spicy but has just enough kick). The fish tacos I didn't enjoy as much and wish I had done shrimp for the two taco combo instead of one fish and one shrimp. Pretty big inside with ample seating and clean. Prices are reasonable.

Beat the lunch rush coming here. Ordered two fish tacos Ensenada style. Yum! Wet shrimp burrito with verde sauce: cheese was a bit funky but overall very tasty Salsa bar was clean and full if options. At $3.50 a taco and $10-$15 for a combo, I don't know if it's the cheapest meal but the quality and taste is definitely worth it.

I've been to this location several times and they never disappoint. The food is great, I usually get the Baja Bowl with carne asada. The fish tacos are really good too - the fish is fresh, the salsa is spicy and the cabbage has a good crunch. I'll be back!

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! This is my favorite dinner spot anytime of the week. Food comes out quick and is always fresh and satisfying. I always get the shrimp plate -and the guacamole and chips. The pinto beans and white rice are addictive (and made of lard)! The salsa bar is also tasty! I dare you to try it!! I could easily eat here everyday!!

Stay away. Food is so so. Had fish tacos and cane asada burito. Prices are way off from what yelp stated. $8 for a burrito not $6... Did i say this is a fast food place in a less desireable Lake Forest? I placed a to-go order and the staff fail to give me a total over the phone. I calculated to 16.78 with tax around 18.12 . Was Shock To See Total At 24.30. They didn't even give me a break down receipt. Just give me a total with credit card receipt. Called management after I got home and they said nothing they can do. Will be contacting my credit card company.

Like everyone else I'm going to rave about the Ensenada style fish tacos- they are awesome! The rice was good too but I was letdown by the black beans- they were bland. I tried my husband's carne asada burrito (which he got wet) and while it was good it was incredibly salty. I will definitely be back for the fish tacos- they were amazing.

What!? Damn this place is good! Pisses me off that it's better than Wahoos since I have been eating at Wahoos for 25 years. The rice and pinto beans are magical. I could just eat that and be totally happy. The rice is ridiculously luscious and the beans are creamy and home made without a doubt. I love the grilled fish tacos. The kicker is that great white cheese they add and the super fresh pico. I love to add the tomatillo sauce as well. The line is a bit daunting but it moves fast. Can't wait to come back!

Great food but they start running you out of there 30 minutes before closing time... You're very rude about it

    (3)
  • Kevin J.

giving this place 3 stars solely because seems like almost every time I call ahead to order I am on hold for excess of 7 minutes. Just now I finally hung up after hitting 11:11 of hold time at 2pm.... their food is simple and for that reason good. it is not GOOD though in the sense that it is a culinary masterpiece. it fills you up knowing you're getting simple and healthy ingredients. have been a customer for 5 years now, eating here at least once a week but it has just become frustrating and not worth it anymore.

I love this place and I LOVE the "shrimp tacos." This was a great location from on of our After Party's after church. They were very hospitable and let us move chairs and tables to accommodate our large group. Highly recommended.

  • Maria N.

The last 2 times I have been in they have messed up my order. Instead of apologizing and getting me the correct food they throw it back at you like you made the error. Worst customer service!

We had charbroiled tacos. They are loaded and delicious! Next time I know I don't need beans and rice since the tacos are so filling. This a great place.

I'm normally not a fan of fish tacos, but these are amazing! Seems pricey at first but there's no skimping on any part of the food.

    (5)
  • Maria T.

We eat here pretty often. I think it's the rice - there's something in the rice that makes it very tasty. My husband's coworkers also think the same thing. I almost always get the Baja Bowl with blackened fish and pinto beans. There is a salsa bar although it's a little poorly positioned. When lunch traffic is heavy (everyday around noon) there's a line to order, a line to get drinks, and a line to get salsa. The drink section is right next to the salsa bar, so it gets especially crowded there. Also it seems like to go portions have shrunk a little bit a couple months ago. TIP: they just added salmon to their list of fishes, currently priced the same as blackened fish! Got my bowl with salmon during my last visit. It was pretty good!

  • A H.

I love their shrimp tacos and pinto beans!! It's really all about the beans! I don't really think I've tried much else because their shrimp tacos are the best every time! I just wish you would open a location in Long Beach or the South Bay area.

    (5)
  • Angela S.

Not accommodating at all! I asked for onions, cheese and sour cream and was rudely told "No"! She was so rude with her one word answer. Won't be going back here.

  • Travel T.

Very good!!! The two fish taco plate was superb. Plenty of fish and very tasty. Pinto beans and rice were savory. Ample serving to fill you up, unlike many fish tacos. Carne Asada burrito is huge and I recommend pinto beans and rice inside. It was delicious. Salsa bar is great as well. The only negative was a female working here who had an attitude.

    (4)
  • Eddie C.

Solid mexican. Sort of pricey for what it is, and the portions seem a bit underwhelming if you eat in. I prefer ordering to-go, but you might have to wait a while. I don't really eat fish (ha.), so I get the enchilada plate. The beans and rice are solid. Their stuff tends to be heavily seasoned and salted, so it's no health food, but hey it's fairly tasty. I usually get the green sauce on the enchiladas, but it doesn't make a huge difference to me, as I load up on the tomatillo salsa anyways. I usually feel kind of bloated afterwards though.

    (4)
  • Gabe R.

Food here is fantastic, however the service is a little slow but that's because the line is always out the door. 2 taco combo Ensenada style is the best thing on the menu! Give it a shot!

    (4)
  • April L.

I love baja fish tacos, but come on can't they ever get my order right? Every time I get home I have something different or I am missing something. 8/2/14 Ordered burrito with pinto beans- got black beans instead. Ordered sour cream- no sour cream I mean it's really not that hard.

  • Jason D.

Great food despite the consistently rude staff... The Hispanic girl at the register with the heavy Latina makeup is always miserable and rude.... While I ate, I watched her be rude to every customer that was unlucky enough to pick her register... she never said hello or thank you to a customer once during the 20-30 minutes I sat there and ate.. She was just plain rude to people.. .. If you hate your job that much do us all a favor and quit so I don't have to look at your miserable face when I'm enjoying a tasty taco.... fish tacos are great and the rice is buttery special goodness..

  • Jennifer H.

Just as good as Javier's without the "Javier's." I love the food at Javier's, but they lost me as a customer because of their over priced food. This is starting to be my go to taco spot. They make a mean soft taco here. My faves include their Ensenada Style fish taco, and the carne asada. The tacos are always flavorful, over stuffed, and the produce is fresh. The pinto beans and rice are delicious and they give you plenty. There is always law enforce by which is alThis place is a must try!

  • Pauline L.

I heard about this place and how great their shrimp tacos are, so I finally went to try it! It was really hard for me to understand the person at the cash register who took our order so after the first couple times of saying excuse me, I turned to my boyfriend to had been here before to ask him what she asked, lol. After figuring out our orders, we found a table to sit at and I headed over to their salsa bar, which was great. I got a few of the salsas and limes. I ordered the shrimp taco (yum!) and the battered fish taco (kinda dry) with rice and black beans. The shrimp taco was definitely better than the battered fish taco for me. I loved eating the pico de gallo with the rice mixed with the black beans!

I recommend Baja fish we own a hair salon next to them and we have 22 hairstylists and it seems everyday someone is eating from this restaurant the two taco combo Baja style is my fave. You should call your order in first then it's super quick Arriba!

  • Ting Ting W.

I've never had a craving for Baja until my friend brought me a shrimp taco from here. This is seriously all I can think about now. It's sooo good. I would say the best shrimp taco I've ever had. The shrimp were a good size and super tender and juicy and grilled to perfection and with all the toppings. Delish!!! I'm addicted to it. Must go back for the shrimp tacos and try some of their other stuff too!!

    (4)
  • Keesha F.

DO NOT Order the blackened fish tacos... I repeat..DO NOT! Unless you like your fish to have the same texture of chicken Blah.... Ensenada tacos were sub par...My two stars are for the star of the Baja fish taco spot and didn't contain any fish at all.. The shrimp taco! Was super yummy and you can tell they pour way more love into making it.. I actually bought one of each-blackened, ensenada, and a shrimp.. Took two bites of the blackened fish-one to try and another to make sure I didn't like it, and promptly returned it in exchange for another shrimp (for a dollar up charge of course).. Ohh and might i add $4.50 for a shrimp taco is a bit much

  • Gallega P.

The food is delicious. Totally worth the money. Makes you feel like a fool for paying almost the same amount for a weak Chipotle burrito :) because we all know how much Chipotle skimps on you. Chips cost $2.50 and the salsa is free because there is a salsa table. Would it kill them to just give us a handful of chips on our plate, for free? That's a rip off to charge that much for chips. It won't break their bank to give us some chips (like Rubios).

Absolutely disappointing. I have eaten at Baja Fish Tacos in Santa Ana innumerable times and the food quality there is much better than at this location. First off, the menu threw me off a little. I work right across from this location, so considering lunch hour and all, I decided to call for a pick up. The menu online said $6.20 for an enchilada and a taco combo, the menu at the location said $8.00 for an enchilada and a taco combo, and I ended up being charged $11.00 for the same combo! How the cost rose up to that amount is something I didn't understand. Anyhow, I got to my office and opened my lunch box and was SUPER DISAPPOINTED. The enchilada looked like it was just covered in 4-5 layers of melted cheese, with NO SAUCE whatsoever. I didn't see, or taste any green sauce that I requested. All I tasted was cheese, cheese, and cheese. The beans didn't taste fresh/hot either. The taco was OKAY, nothing special. Overall, I was very disappointed and probably won't go there again.

I love this place! Great food, great environment, outstanding servers, and great location. I've had a lot of their items and the menu and they are all good. My favorite is the Baja bowl. It's healthy and tasty. I would recommend this place to anybody. Make sure that you try their salsas too.

I love this place. Great fish tacos (of course!), large portions, and awesome house made salsas! What more can you ask for? Even their rice and beans are delicious (and I normally don't eat alot of beans) Everyone I've taken here has liked the food, this place is consistent -- consistently good. Just typing this review is making me crave a baja fish taco......

Boy, did I miss the boat on my first pass at Baja....... I loved it there, but only gave them 4-stars. Today, I revisited, and had the "Fish Combo Platter" for $10. Wowie-woowie...... what a great deal, and what a great meal! I got two nice blackened, white fish filets, my favorite black beans and rice, guacamole, and that great assortment of salsas from the stainless steel salsa station! PLUS.... I got a short stack of hot corn tortillas in foil to make "fish tacos." Frankly..... this is now my favorite, as it gets me more fish, and the ability to make some kick-*ss fish tacos too! So help me, I've paid twice as much for a far less satisfying fish meal, and have even left still hungry...... but not at Baja! Having arrived 15 minutes after noon, now I know about the "line out the door." Next visit, I'm hitting them at 1pm with my clients for a late lunch....... and a better choice of tables.

I am a huge fan of this place. Tacos and burritos have a healthy taste but at the same time delicious - not the typical "dirty dirty" burritos me and my colleagues would eat from the downtown "roach coach" food trucks only to have stomach problems by a few hours. Excellent salsa bar. Some fresh salsa goes well with any dish. Would highly recommend this place. One of my OC favs. for tacos

I came here ten years ago and thought it was amazingly delicious. And ten years later... amazingly delicious. This place is a wonderful example that when what you're doing works you should probably keep doing it. Some of the best fish tacos I've had with rice and beans that are a little too addicting for my health, but wonderful for a splurge.

This place has the best shrimp tacos I've ever tasted! Their carne asada wet burrito is the best! I have had several of their other items, such as, carne asada tacos, carne asada enchiladas, chicken tacos, chicken bowls and their chicken salad, and I have to say, I've never been disappointed. The staff is always friendly. The only downside is the wait during the lunch rush but the wait is worth it!

For me this is the best lunch spot in lake forest area! Their baja bowls are amazing!! It does get crazy busy here but the staff are great at what they do and even though there are huge lines, it goes by quick. If you are doing takeout, call ahead and it'll be ready when u get there and it's much faster that way. Caution: salsa bar gets crazy too, but you'll love the food so much that you care less lol

Definitely overrated. Have been here many times, but this time it was just BAD. their customer service sucks like no other. it took a while for us to order, as there was only one cashier helping one customer in front of us while a few employees hung around as if they were busy. we got our order in and helped ourselves to the salsa bar. i had been craving ooey gooey nachos and hubby wanted his standard fish tacos. food came in a reasonable amount of time. fish tacos were REALLY REALLY fishy. like to the point that hubby didn't even eat them. my nachos were ooey and gooey with melted cheese and beans just like i wanted, but once i picked up a few cheesy ones i noticed there was hardly any chips under (most of them were the crushed crumb pieces they ended up smothering with beans and cheese). i went to go ask one of the guys if i could have some more chips and as he was about to give me some, one of the girls tells him in spanish not to and says something else to him. he puts the scoop down and tells me in broken english that it is $2.50 for more chips. i explain to him my nachos didn't have enough chips and i only wanted a few more and he again repeats himself while the girl (who clearly spoke english and could have told me herself) acts as if she is busy and avoids eye contact. frustrated and not about to pay for more chips i walk away. hubby later goes back to ask for a to go box and another girl proceeds to tell him its $1 for the small styrofoam container. WTF? are you serious? she gives him the container and says "ok, i won't charge you this time". gee thanks for doing us a favor! this place used to be a family favorite for us, but sadly their customer service has gone terribly down the drain and the employees really do not seem to care. oh well. their loss!

They never fail to amaze. Service during the lunch rush was quick, portions were huge, and the carne asada tacos could not be any more filling. Keep up the great work, Baja!

Best place ever!!!! When I first started coming here I loved the fish tacos and unwrapped burrito with fish (still awesome) but now I am addicted to the shrimp tacos. The shrimp tacos are so delicious!!! A great combination of flavors with big, yummy shrimp. Love!!

This place is more a 3.5 than a 4. I've been here a few times and have been satisfied by the service and food. They pile on the fish and other ingredients. They don't mess around on portions. It's almost like eating a pie at first, since you can't fold the taco. I've read the Blackend fish is good here so I may have to give that a try next time. On the taste (my recent order) Charbroiled Fish taco- large pieces of fish cooked nicely and generous toppings. it was a tad bland over all but the additional hot salsa and squeeze of lime gave the added kick it needed. Ensanada Fish taco - again generous portions on the fried fish and toppings. Tasted really good. I like the thin shreds of cabbage and the creamy baja sauce. First time i was here, i ended up spending way too much for lunch. This time around, i went with just two tacos. You do get generous portions so I can understand that it's a little more than other places. And the service is fast, attentive and friendly. Overall, I really like the food here, but half star down for the prices and knowing that there are places that make better fish tacos. I'm still a fan :)

Shrimp! Shrimp! And more shrimp! This is the only place we eat Mexican food. The most freshest food available each and every time. And not to mention the chips and salsa bar! The shrimp tacos there are cooked to perfection, topped with cabbage and cheese! W tons delicious !

This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants of all time! The white rice (of all things!) is deliciously irresistible. I also love their blacken mahi mahi as a burrito or tacos. TIP: The word is out with locals on this place and it gets extremely busy during the week at lunch so arrive early or check it out for dinner or on the weekend.

Well, I would have loved to try the shrimp burrito that I ordered but I ended up getting a blackened fish burrito which was a little on the dry side. When we told the cashier that we received the wrong order he proceeded to argue with us. So first bite was defnitely on a sour note. We were heading back to San Diego so not a lot of time to re-order the shrimp. Also tried the blackened fish taco which needs the white sauce that we are accustomed to in SD. Too dry for sure. Would have loved to try the shrimp burrito and might have given them a 2nd chance accept that the poor customer service soured us on the joint.

I found this place by accident with my cousin Scott after surfing 2 years ago. Have not been here at this location since then. Here yesterday after surfing, I was craving Mexican food and I decided to go here and I was so glad I did. There specialty is in there fish. So whatever fish plate you order, there all good. I like the chips. Very fresh. The salsa bar is fresh at all times. Clean inside. Nice big flat screen tv's. The food is quick even when it's crowded. So far I ordered the fish burrito combo. Fish taco combo. Good all the time when I order. Next visit, there salads look good so I have to try that next time. They also have another location very close to the South Coast Plaza Mall. I don't remember the street it's on, but there good there as well. Found that location by accident as well a year ago. I guess you can say, this will be one of my go to spots after surfing.

I LOVE this place. I have to eat here at least once a week (yup, it's that good). I usually get the chicken tacos and chips with endless salsa. They give you big chicken pieces in the tacos and it's not dry at all, very juicy and tasty. Hubby gets the Ensenada taco/chicken enchilada combo with rice and pinto beans. Even their rice and beans are super delicious. If you like Wahoo's, you'll love this place because it's WAY better. Trust me.

YUM!!! Fish tacos are great.. Carne asada tacos are as well. I'm always a little hesitant to order carne asada because I like lean meat..their's is AWESOME! Tender, moist, and no fat on it. :) If you get there at lunch time, expect to see a line out the door, but service is always fairly quick.

While their menu is strikingly similar to Wahoo's Fish Taco's menu, I think between the two I prefer Baja Fish Tacos. The food comes out amazingly fast and there's something about the flavor of their food that I prefer. Maybe it's just more traditional tacos and enchiladas, etc? Also, the rice seems to be more flavorful and the beans are more tender here. I really like that they have a salsa bar so you can help yourself also because I love me some pico de gallo. Between the price and the food, this place is almost always packed though so if you're planning on eating during peak hours, you should probably go early or later to save yourself some time and to be able to find a place to sit. Whenever I go, I think to myself, "Self, I should come more often..." so it is definitely worth a trip.

This place is great. Like a Rubio's, but way better. They have lots of healthy options and it is always packed at lunch. I usually order the carne asada burrito wet with both red and green sauce. I have had fish tacos and salads that are good there too. I would say the biggest problem with this place is that there are always so many people there at lunch time.

I've lived in California a little under a year. I've heard nothing but good things about their tacos and such, so hungry me decides to try them out after a long day of work. Probably not the best idea. My father and I ordered, place was pretty empty so the wait wasn't too long, still a little questionable for the amount of workers and lack of people there. We get our food and take it to go. I made the mistake of not checking to see if my order was even right, but given their reputation I didn't even think about it. Got a COMPLETELY different order than what I asked- apparently carne asada somehow means sploogey fish to them, with extra sauce and a few strings of lettuce. It looked like a glob of sour cream or something with a green lettuce spec and some soggy meat thrown in. Needless to say I almost threw it out the window with how hungry/frustrated I was. Horrible first experience from such a "highly esteemed" taco biz. For the price paid too it all seems a little unfair. Wasn't expecting too much and got even less. People make mistakes I totally get that, but I'm not happy with my service regardless. Should've gone to Del Taco, but that's what I get for trying something new. I'm stuck with microwave pizza tonight.

Sure this is a Mexican food chain, but if you rate it as such, there's no way Baja Fish Tacos doesn't deserve 5 stars. I've previously been to the Laguna Niguel location, usually for some beers on the way to the beach, sometimes accompanied by chips and salsa or a burrito. And my experiences weren't bad at all. But for some reason, when you haven't eaten all day and somebody says "fish tacos" it's like sex that doesn't need foreplay. Down. Now. The Lake Forest location is adjacent to the 5 freeway, which makes it terribly easy to get to. There's plenty of parking. And at 6 pm on a Sunday - a steady stream of patrons. I ordered the blackened fish taco plate with the option of black beans. I nursed a Modelo as my boyfriend and I stocked up on the salsas and pico de gallo and waited for our meal. And when it came out, it was actually quite beautiful... I even uploaded a picture of my smiling taco plate. Beans, rice, and two tacos at 10 and 2, with cabbage and pico de gallo resting on the fish taco. Flavorful and juicy tacos, rice that's as fluffy and buttery it rivals that at Wahoo's (their white rice is pretty great). And with a decent beer selection, good service and a very clean, cozy establishment, Baja totally impresses. Beware: not only are the tacos to die for, the burritos are gargantuan. You've been warned.

Having eaten nothing but a yummy breakfast all day, we sure were hungry and this time my friend was convinced I would cave in and try a fish taco. The owners recognize her here. I'm not quite popular enough yet so I had to recite my order of the veggie burrito but this time I requested it wet with the red enchilada sauce and melted cheese and while I was waiting in line I glanced to my right at the fridge full of Jarritos and beer. I so wanted one but my friend's on a health kick so I had to stick to the water. Boo! Next time for sure when she's not around. This burrito is still amazingly good and yummy. Think Chipotle size but better and cheaper. We also got a side of chips and salsa. Their roasted tomato salsa has a great kick to it. Now, that's what I call chips and salsa. Baja Fish, you haven't seen the last of me. Next time I just might try the fish tacos but I can at least promise that I'll grab a Jarritos from the fridge.

Luv those grilled fish tacos!!!! I absolutely love their grilled Mahi fish tacos. With shredded cabbage, salsa on two corn tortillas, their two taco combination is delicious. It comes with black beans or pinto beans, and flavored rice. The salsa bar is great, but I especially love the raw, serrano peppers.

If you haven't been here before, I urge you to do so! I find myself having dreams about the baja fish bowl, and those are the mornings I wake up with drool on my pillow case. The fish is fresh, the pinto beans taste magical and the guac...to die for. My boyfriend and the rest of the world love their shrimp tacos! They are pretty amazing as well and dont skimp on the shrimp at all. For two full meals with guac and chips it'll be around $25. Totally worth every penny. Keep up the good work guys!!! And COME TO TUSTIN!

So confused by all of the good ratings. Salsa is sadly disappointing and chips are worse. Main combo meal is plain rice, beans, and carne on a plate. Tortillas came late and were like rubber. Husbands meal also came in two parts. Both too quick for anything to be fresh there. The cashier scoops up your chips with no gloves. Gross! Never going back.

LOVE! Love! LOVE! The food is spectacular. My new go to meal is the unwrapped burrito which is basically a salad with your choice of meat. It's tasty. The carne asada is to die for but my fish loving friends love the blacked grilled fish. The rice is also amazing and so is the salsa bar. The line is always out the door during lunch but they get people in and out quickly so don't be discouraged. They clean tables super fast. They've got it down to a science. If you haven't been here yet....GOOOOO!

It's a nice place but the food didn't wow me. The fish tacos were good but nothing I would crave. Kind of disappointed that you have to purchase chips and they don't just come with your meal (on the side). The salsa bar was clean but I wish they had some hotter salsas.

I felt like Mexican, and saw all the great reviews , so decided to try it... little place in a strip mall... might need a little conditioning, but clean (although when i came in i smelled a little bit of that post-mop smell that turns me off from eating there). this takes 1/2 star the service was tremendously courteous, funny, and helpful. the menu is plentiful and tempting. I wanted a combo, but went for the carne asada burrito to better gauge through this standard burrito what would would be my official foodie opinion. My wife got a fish taco (not fried) and a camaron (shrip) tostada, and a large order of guacamole. To go. they added salsas and a bag of homemade chips. $20. could you believe the guac is only 3.50, and all pure real avo? If I lived within a few blocks i would source my guac from here. review: Burrito- OK, but i like it when my beef is better seared, this had that slightly boiled texture (from a pan surely that let out some juice), tasted good, but I guess I'm over picky as you don't get that seared/grilled texture at most places anyway. -1/2 star fish taco- not so good- my wife said it had a moldy taste, that it was probably a tostada. I tried just a little bit of fish... it was good in texture and all, but I think it was the fish that had the moldy taste, perhaps a seasoning on it? anyway, who wants mold taste.. this takes off 1star tostada- this was excellent and wins over the review, fresh ceviche and nice mix of tomato/onion,cabage. .. good stuff Gauco- this was also excellent!! 8oz of pure avocado not watered down or fillers. not spicy salsa- the mild salsa was delicious, and the spicy had a chille de arbol type favor going for it and good spice, delicious went great with the avocado and homemade chips overall approved, I'll try again, minus the fish

5 stars just for their chips and salsa. SERIOUSLY. A coworker brought it back to the office for us. The chips were warm (YUM) and she chose 3 different kinds of salsa: Pico De Gallo: Man, can't go wrong with go ole Pico De Gallo. A Green looking one: !!!!! So good! It was smokey and spicy. Just WOW! I've never had Salsa THIS delicious. A Red looking one: This one was the spiciest. I could see it pairing well with Tacos or burritos. Must try the rest of their menu soon!

Went there twice today, lunch was off the hook. Carne Asada plate is awesome.. I order the shrimp salad at dinner , it was pretty good but not as good as what I had for lunch. The salsa bar looked tired at dinner time. But it's so close to perfect with just a few tweaks

Excellent food. Not greasy at all. Huge shrimp. Great carne asada! This is much better than rubios, chipotle, baja fresh, etc. I really enjoyed this restaurant. I would plan on about $15.00 a person after tax and a drink.

Ok, I'm eating crow. Baja Fish Tacos is not just ok, it's really good. Since moving closer, my hubby and I eat here at least once a week (though that could be because it's the only restaurant he'll take me to without contest). I am in love with their shrimp soft taco combo plate. Buttery shrimp served in a fresh flour tortilla, with cotija cheese and their baja sauce. Yum. Add rice and either black or pinto beans to it, and voilà, a filling meal for just over $5. Their rice? Not sure how they prepare it, but I could literally eat it and nothing else. It completely BLOWS Wahoo's, Jalapeno's, and every other Mexican food joint's out of the water. If Baja Fish Tacos actually served crow, maybe sauteed in their garlic butter and white wine sauce, with a little cotija cheese, I just might eat it. I have a particularly loud and overly brave one in mind...

Can everyone please pause here and take a minute to click on the photo of my fish tacos, and then take a moment to reflect on how beautiful that platter is. Seriously, the color, the texture, the freshness.... after being handed that plate, I honestly didn't even need to eat anything anymore. I was already filled with joy and contentment just by looking at it! I came here for the first time for lunch, and the line was trickling out the door. A guy in front of me recommended the shrimp, but how can I come to a fish taco place and not order the fish? So of course I ordered both. I got the 2 Taco combo with one shrimp taco, one blackened fish, and side salad instead of the rice. The shrimp taco was VERY GOOD. I would like to describe it to you in detail, but I can't. Why? Look at my picture again. Do you see how much food there is on that thing! You try picking up one of those tacos and eating it and not having everything fall and mix together and juices drip everywhere. It's impossible! All I know is that the shrimp taco was excellent. The blackened fish, I was not such a fan of. It was very... flavorful. And by that, I mean heavily seasoned with either tarragon or rosemary. Not my cup of tea. If something I'm going to eat is gonna be heavily seasoned with anything, it's either gonna be with chili, or chocolate! The blacked fish was also a little dry. But still, overall, everything was good! The place was SPARKLING clean, the service was super fast despite how many people were crammed in there, everything was fresh, and seriously, just look at how colorful my plate was! Disclaimers: that styro-foam bowl of black goop is actually black beans, and you can also ask for a vinaigrette dressing if you don't want the ranch they give you. 4 stars only because of my 5 star rule! (Have to go somewhere twice before giving it 5 stars...... usually.) YUM!

i love this place. it's close to the office, and relatively quick, unless the place is super packed, which it usually is, but even then service is pretty on point. i'll usually order the carne asada burrito by itself, and am stuffed afterwards. with the sides i nearly explode. the baja bowl is pretty good toooo. i know it's called baja fish taco's but i have yet to try the fish. price wise, it's pretty average. for the quality and quantity it's way better than wahoo's or other taco joints, and in the end it's about the same price. there is plenty of seating inside, and a few tables outside as well. don't be fooled though, even with hella seats, it fills up quick during lunch time.

Fish Wish Baja Fish Tacos is a slice of Mexican inspired heaven! The unending line that curves out the door during lunchtime hours is a clue to how much this establishment rocks. From their amazingly fresh fish dishes to their savory rice & beans, Baja Fish Tacos can whip up some tasty treats that's sure to please anyone that has a south of the border craving. Highlights & Low-lights: *Salsa bar is stocked for your taste buds delight *Fresh fish!!! *Some of the best rice & beans I've had..EVER (black & pinto)! *Portions are perfect *Food & menu can be a little Americanized but who cares when its soo soo goood *Avocado on deck (salads & guacamole) *Wait can be real loong *Staff is usually very kind *Snag a seat (& parking spot) because they are hard to come by during rushes I love the fish tacos, green salad, rice n' beans and salsas! During my lunch breaks I'd call in and hop in my car for some melt in your mouth goodness. I'm a SUPER fan of Baja Fish Tacos!

  • Tammy L.

I love rice...and the rice here is one of my favorite. Forget the fish tacos, bring me some rice, black beans, chips and salsa and I'm good!! Actually, I do try to have a well-balanced meal so I order the Baja Bowl with carne asada with lots of their red salsa on top. As for the fish tacos, I prefer the Ensanada-style ones (battered/fried) version since the grilled version tend to be a little too dry and bland for my taste. I love the 2-for-1 beer deal and the marinated onions. I don't need much more to make me the perfect morning-after-partying meal. YUM. I've been coming here for a year or so and I noticed that service hasn't been as cool and friendly as before. One of the guys there used to walk around and offer a free refill on your chip basket. Nowadays, they won't even give you a 2nd large salsa cup! Anyhoo, this place is tops for "fast food". Love it.

I loved when this place first opened and is very good Mexican food and I love the fish tacos and blackened shrimp. I was almost disappointed in how popular it became because now there is generally a wait but I would still eat here regularly. Best Mexican food in the area and I would probably give them five stars but i really miss the less crowded more attentive staff, they would give you free chips and were far more friendly. It just got busy so that is good for them I guess.

I would give it 3.5 stars if i could. price was great, and the food came out quick. i ordered shrimp and fish (ensenada style) tacos and got the combo. i gotta say the rice and beans were not impressive. they couldve flavored the rice a little bit and done something with the beans. both very plain. with that said - the flavor of the shrimp was VERY good and the fish tacos was overflowing with fish and had the best sauce ever. i just wish the fish tacos were a little it crispier. i gotta say though - the line was OUT THE DOOR so people must really love these tacos!

I have to say this place has the best Fish Tacos ever! Plate comes with 2 fish tacos and ask for Ensenada style, rice and beans. Their proportions are great too. The food comes out fairly quick. But this place gets packed!! Their Nachos & burritos are good to from what my friends say. Overall its super yummy! Give it a try!

My favorite lunch spot in OC. The ensenada fish taco (get the white sauce on the side) is delicious. The carne asada meat is especially flavorful- more so than other carne asada I've had at different restaurants.

When you're looking for a tasty salsa bar (not aesthetically pleasing) come here. They have super fresh salsa and the onions are marinated to perfection. I had the chicken nachos and boy do they pile on the cheese. Moist chicken and salsa to top it off - good place and price! Friends had the fish and shrimp taco combos and they raved about it.

This place is just eh. The cashier had such a look of disdain on her face when we were trying to order. it really sucked that we were inconveniencing her with the little thing of ordering lunch. We then had to go sit in a tiny little table, which wouldn't be so bad except there were a ton of other tiny tables all crammed together. No private relaxed conversation here. Then the food arrived. The chicken burrito i ordered was utterly boring. The burrito was tasteless and covered in some gross sugary excuse for red sauce. There was overly salty flavored rice. Together both salty rice and tasteless burrito were sitting in a pool of watery beans. The total for two drinks, a burrito and two fish tacos was almost $30. I guess i was paying for the ambiance. What a waste.

Love, love, love this place! I'm Mexican and know good Mexican food. I don't normally eat at "mexican" food restaurants because they are not authentic. Normally bland beans and dry rice with hard and chewy carne asada and greasy everything, but not this place. Been going to their locations for the past 6 years and not once have I been disappointed. Their food is fresh, great quality ingredients, very tasty and always consistent. It's like they have the same cook travel to each location to prepare every dish himself! Have introduced this place to friends and they too are hooked! Can and have had this place for lunch and dinner for days at a time. Soooo good! I know not too many people are fans of beans, but if you like beans, this place has the best beans. Rice is buttery. Mmmm... butter... Fresh salsas. They have fresh onion marinated in oregano and vinegar? Not sure but so good. Carne asada is bomb. All white meat chicken is so tasty, never dry. Fresh salads and great champagne dressing. One of my favorite dishes is the chicken enchiladas with red sauce. OMG. Burrito fan? Try one wet! Just do it! JUST GO ALREADY! Baja Fish Tacos, I LOVE YOU! PS: If you go and by some rare reason you do not agree with all these fellow Yelpers, please do yourself a favor and give this place another shot!

This place makes some killer tacos and they pile on the toppings. Great place for lunch or a quick dinner. Pretty good prices also. Chicken tacos are my favorite.

BUSY ALL THE TIME. Its that good. I get the unwraped burrito which is basically the same thing as the salad but they put guacamole instead of sliced avocado. It saves you at least a buck that way. What I do is call ahead and phone in my order. That way I just walk up and pay. No waiting in line with all the other newbies. Then I have more time for the salsa bar. Their carne asada tacos are a good second choice.

I'd never heard of this place until my boss had it catered for a team lunch. So. good. I still haven't made it around the corner to try other selections (we usually get tacos, quesedillas). But what really gets me is their fresh guacamole and even the pico de gallo....Because we cater, we get these in big styrophome containers (22-30 oz)...those are dangerous - I could eat the entire container!

My HR director told me about this place...she said it's the best fish tacos ever...I believed her. Last night for some reason I was craving tacos so bad even after eating free tacos at the CSUF baseball game, my little tummie was still curious to find out what Baja Fish tacos is all about. I did not realize how close this place is to where I live, it was actually just 2 exits away. I was on a mission to get some Fish tacos and nothing was going to stop me. I arrived here around 8:30pm. No lines, yes! I ordered the Blackened Fish Tacos and Beer Battered fish tacos. The salad bar was awesome, very clean and everything looks spicy...I am a fan of spicy! I was told the green sauce is the most spicy...so I got a lot of it and it indeed was very spicy. Their red sauce is not as spicy and has a roasted flavor to it...very good. Their spicy pickled slices of onions are spicy and super delicious with the tacos. Their beer battered fish tacos were extremely delicious....for some reason I liked it better than the blackened one. I am craving for it right now as I am writing this...darn. This fish taco so far is the best tasting fish taco I've had. It tasted fresh and came loaded with a whole lot of fish. I love that the cabbage was extremely thinly sliced. I can't wait to come back and try their shrimp tacos along with other items on the menu. I wish there was one closer to where I work so I can go religiously during lunch. Please open one in Brea! Please note: In regards to prices...a bit on the expensive side when it comes to Fish tacos...but well worth it! Fish Taco was $2.75 and Shrimp was $3.80, combo is around $7-$10.00. I am OK with paying a little more as long as its good! =)

OMG this place sooo good!!!!!!!!!! There is no reason to order anything else on their menu but their fish and shrimp taco! Such simple bold flavors. In the taco you get a good piece of flaky fish that was perfectly fried. Thinly shredded cabbage and rich creme sauce. Put a little hot sauce and a squeeze of lime and you are good to go. The shrimp taco is very delish too big plump shrimps , tasty pico, and yummy salty cotija cheese. Just simply the best!!!!

Tried this place based on Yelp reviews. I have to agree, the tacos are pretty damn good. I had a Ensenada Style beer battered fish taco, a blackened fish taco and a Carne Asada steak taco. All of them were really tasty and plenty full of protein. I was stuffed after having only three tacos with no other side dishes. The Ensenada style with the beer batter was my favorite one. Awesome lunch place. I am glad we tried this one and we will be back.

I am going to go back and try other things. Their carne asada is really good and I am SUPER picky about carne asada. (I was told their carne asada nachos are awesome, so I will look forward to trying.) I got a fish taco and asada taco and they were great. The other day, I got a fish taco at a famous local fish taco chain and the fish was almost ALL the dark, oily, fishy meat, not the flaky white meat. (Again, I am PICKY.) I had to exchange it for a veggie burrito. Not so here... the fish was white and not fishy at all. Their sauce does not have as much flavor as it could, but it was all very good. I think they charge for chips and their tacos are affordable but not cheap. They have a salsa bar and a decent amount of seating. As I said, I will definitely go back and try a few more things. (I am sad they do not have any Taco Tuesday specials... I think they are missing an opportunity.)

Saw this place on yelp and thought, wow, 4.5 stars with 232 reviews. Must be pretty good? Wrong. I ordered to go a carne asada burrito, blackened fish taco, grilled fish taco, and shrimp taco. Carne asade burrito was too salty and not that great. The shrimp taco was good, though I may prefer Rubios. The fish in the fish taco was dry and bland, and the chicken in the chicken taco was also very flavorless. Wait... did I say chicken taco? What happened to my other fish taco? I'd like the answer to that too...

If your a gringo you'll probably like it. But the fish tasted frozen. And the sauce was cheap and gross. Taco Bell could've done better.

Meh- the best word to describe this somewhat dated looking, semi-comfortable S. OC enclave where unassuming customers with limited worldly palates seek to fill their ever enlarging bellies with reasonably priced, reasonably good tasting product, BUT rave about all this as if it was All That. Just read the blind lemmings reviews below and you'll see how even mediocrity all dressed up as a convenient, "safe" restaurant yields the highest scoring reviews in OC. But then again, this is the land where Round Table Pizza recently scored as the number 1 Pizza Joint in OC-Land, so you can conclude the reviewers' are either incredibly unsophisticated diners or they've had their tongues taken out. Truth be told-- I had the carne asada/chicken burrito (the "50/50") and it was good, but I've had better for less. Specifically at Cafe Rio where the food product quality is just better. Yes, BFT adds guacamole in the burrito but you pay for it in the increased price anways. The steak at BFT = OK, not that flavorful, fairly tender with some grizzle. The steak at CR = very good, very tender, very flavorful and NO grizzle. Price" Baja Fish= $7.75 out the door for the burrito. Cafe Rio = $6.75 out the door for the burrito. Interior Ambiance: BFT= "Passable," circa 1980 looking. Not very lively or light, in fact Old School dark and blase. Cafe Rio= Modern, comfortable, spacious, all lit. Sorry happy SOC lemmings-- Baja Fish just isn't as big a catch as Cafe Rio.

This place has great blackened fish tacos! Growing up in SoCal, I've had my fair share of Mexican food. Baja Fish has a variety of great healthy choices if you love fresh, delicious food with a Mexican flair. It is very much like Wahoo's, with the casual seating and ordering process. But that's where the similarities end. My coworkers clued me into this place a few years ago. Baja Fish serves humongous burritos! Today, I ordered the taco & enchilada combo, opting for a blackened fish taco and a chicken enchilada. The combo comes with rice and your choice of black or pinto beans. The rice is buttery, yet cheesy; it's surprisingly delicious. The beans are great as well, but the real star of the dish was the blackened fish taco. Served with a cabbage slaw, it was just delicious. The fish was tender and seasoned perfectly. The enchilada was larger than I expected, stuffed with grilled chopped chicken, but delicious as well. The portions are large and the restaurant is very BUSY at lunch. There was a line at the door when we arrived. Don't despair, the line moves fast and the orders are processed quickly. The servers are friendly and the food is good. What more can a girl ask for?

Just GO! Whatever you get you will LOVE. I prefer the asada and shrimp tacos. And Guacamole and chips are must. The salsa bar is my all time fav - green and pico de gallo are the best! GO - you won't regret it.

When I can choose where to go for fish tacos, Baja Fish Tacos is my go-to place. I never ever get anything other than their fish tacos...sometimes I get chips, sometimes I get beans...but always, always spicy fish tacos. The tacos are wildly addicting but simple: a tortilla, a big piece of fish, cabbage, and a bit of cheese. The portion of fish is so large, I usually have to break off some of it to accomodate salsa. To me, the spices used to blacken the fish are perfect--spicy and savory. I'm also a huge fan of their pico de gallo. It's fresh and yum. I want to dive into a vat of it and go for a swim. The pinto beans aren't your traditional glob of refried beans. Instead, it's a little closer to pinto bean soup. Scooped onto a chip or mixed in with some rice = nom, nom, nom. The restaurant is a decent size to accomodate a lunch or dinner crowd--about a dozen tables that seat 2 to 4 people. There's some outdoor seating but it's just a couple tables on the sidewalk that directly faces the parking lot and Lake Forest drive. I love Baja Fish Tacos so much that their To Go number is one of the contacts on my phone. An awesome takeaway option.

This place rocks! My hubby is a huge non believer in Mexican restaraunts and baja restaraunts because most of them are all the same....but this place is fantastic! We ordered a burrito and a fish salad - both super super bomb! All the salsas and extras were soooo good and the service was great!

Mmmm fish tacos! I used to always drive by this place without ever blinkin an eye, but luckily one of my good friends introduced me to this place a couple years ago. I LOVE this place! They are always relatively quick in delivering the food after ordering, everything is super clean and the staff is really friendly. One of the best things about this place is that they give you SO much food for your money. I have two favorites here. 1) Fish taco and enchilada combo... MMMMMM!!!!! 2) The baja salad with blackened fish! They have this yummy salad dressing and a generous portion of fish AND avocado! Plus they have beer in the fridge and always have a game on. The tacos are always so stuffed with fish that i can never manage to take a bite without the stuffing pouring out. This is a good thing! Especially for a $7.50 combo. There's something yummy about the rice that I just can't put my finger on. (sigh) I just love good mexican food!

Love this place. Been going for almost 5 years now. The carne asada is the beat I have had. Only thing that gets me is when you order to go, they give you the smallest cups to get your salsa no matter the quantity of food. I recommend just ask for a water cup and use it to feel up with salsa.

My favorite taquería of all time. It's a little different from most of the SoCal places, as Baja Fish has a very simple menu but everything is prepared very, very well. If you're counting calories this is a great option. Meats are: Grilled chicken - well seasoned and juicy. Excellent. Grilled fish - Very simple grilled fish. Sometimes a little dry. Carne asada - Well prepared and tastes like beef Shrimp - Sauteed in butter and garlic. Sooo good. You can get them as tacos, burritos, salads, or enchiladas. Tacos are huge - they're made with two corn tortillas, and you can barely fold them to get them in your mouth. Their red sauce for enchiladas and burritos is great too. Both their beans are excellent (black beans are the best I've ever had), and the rice is always hot and fluffy. Recommendation for first timers is probably the taco + enchilada combo with a chicken taco and cheese enchilada with red sauce and black beans.

This is my favorite place to eat, and I eat here often. The grilled fish tacos are simple (a slab of fish on a corn tortilla with some cabbage and a little Pico de Gallo), and are dry without salsa. They have a GREAT salsa bar. I usually mix half Pico de Gallo and half Salsa Negra (the brown salsa). I use a LOT of it on the taco. It is very healthy and very tasty. The rice and pinto beans are awesome if you get a combo.

I've seen this place before and had been meaning to try it out for over a year but I hadn't. As luck would have it, my coworker was having his going away lunch at this place. I wasn't sure what to order so what I got was 2 Taco combo, 1 chicken and 1 carne asada. I got the combo with the rice and black beans and drink. Mmmm delish!!! It was yummy! I like that their beans and rice and pico de gallo is NOT spicy. I don't like spicy yet somehow, most places slip in hot peppers and black peppers that I don't get to enjoy my food. Yeah, yeah, yeah... I know some people like it so hot that they sweat and tear up but not me. Just make mine plain and I'll do with it like I do. NO SPICY PLEASE! The food was so good... you definitely have to try this place out. Everything was tasty and fresh. I was salivating checking out my coworker's shrimp taco... must try that one next. My other coworker got a shrimp burrito and she said it tasted very fresh! So...definitely would love to come back here! Oh and FYI...when we got here, the line was out the door but they managed to swing through real quick ...take orders as quickly as they were passing out the plates! Awesome for those in a rush at lunchtime!!! I'd give an extra star if I could!

This is my fave fish taco place. They are generous with the fish and it's always consistently good. I always get their chips and salsa. I love that they leave the salsa out so that you can take as much as you want (hate places that charge extra for salsa). TIP: they will do 1/2 orders of chips and salsa if you don't want that much and it's actually only $1.

Tried Baja Fish again. I didn't try the chicken taco this time as I said I would in my previous review. I tried the grilled fish plate that comes with a generous portion of fish, rice (I don't care for beans so it was all rice)and guacamole. Again the fish had no flavor. I added pico de gallo and the guac to it and it was satisfying. It was way too much for me to eat. I brought home leftovers at least half of it. My husband had a fish burrito and it was huge. He really, really enjoyed it. So next time, I will try the chicken in hopes that it will have some flavor without having to had salsa and/or guacamole.

If you are shopping at South Coast and looking for some grub, drive a few blocks and go to Baja Fish tacos. Best rice ever. Really. I usually stick to the two taco combo and change up my meat order depending on what I'm feeling like. I've had the enchiladas and salad as well. Everything is excellent, but the rice really makes the meal. It is that good. All things being equal, I prefer this location to the one in Santa Ana. The lines are usually not as long and you can usually find a table somewhere.

Gimme, gimme, GIMME! This is my favorite lunch spot in OC. Two tacos, rice, beans, and a soda keep me happy for days. Go for the shrimp taco or shrimp burrito, as well as the blackened fish taco and carne asada taco. Sweet tempting tacos, this place makes a great spread! The rice tastes like it has a bit of coconut milk in the mix, and the salsas are always fresh and begging to be mixed in with whatever taco(s) you buy. Arrive early and beat the noon crowd, but don't be scared by the line out the door; the counter is only about 8 feet from the entrance so it always looks busier than it is. Food comes out quickly and never disappoints. Enjoy these tasty tacos!

I have been here twice now in the past month and am a HUGE fan. The first time, I went at prime lunch time and the line was out the door, but it moves quickly and service is efficient. I ordered 2 tacos (ala carte) - one shrimp and one fish. At first, I thought it was a bit pricey, but when the tacos came out, they were HUGE. The shrimp is hands down the best. The food came out in less than 5 minutes and there is also a great salsa bar! This is definitely my go to taco/burrito place in Orange County!

I was a true fan of Wahoo's Fish Tacos before i discovered this place. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it here! I work literally minutes from BFT and any chance i get to go here, i do. i have only had the fish here. and always blackened. either the 1 taco plate or the baja bowl. Lunch rush can get a little crazy. And also seating can be difficult. Dont expect to have a quiet meal with your party. i love the rice! seasoned perfectly! and im a fan of both refried or black beans but i typically get black. i was just @ wahoo's @ the spectrum earlier this week, and all i thought about was "i should of gotten off the freeway @ 2 more exits and went to BFT instead!"

I had a job interview nearby and had gotten to the area early, so I figured I had enough time to snag lunch. I used my Yelp app to see if there were any places nearby that had fish tacos because I had been craving some lately. Just about .2 miles from where I was was a 4.5 star restaurant called Baja Fish Tacos. Excited to see something so close by, I headed over to see what the reviews were about. The line was out the door but it moved quickly despite the lunch rush. Inside there were a lot of tables and people yet everything was clean and fast. I opted for the two taco combo platter which came with rice and choice of beans (I chose black over Pinto). I decided to snag a carne asada taco and a fish taco. I mean, who wants to go to a fish taco place and not have the fish? My food came out very quickly despite how busy the place was. I initially thought that the black beans had too much liquid but it mixed very well with the rice which was superb. I loved the rice and could probably have it every day (though I think it's cooked in something fatty...). The fish taco was not what I expected though - I mean, I was craving a Baja-style which I had assumed was the battered type; I guess I was wrong. What I got was a bit dry and bland, a piece of grilled fish.. The carne asada was excellent however, and all the veggies were fresh. Unfortunately, though the food was pretty good overall, the price was steep for a fast food place for a plate of two small tacos, rice and beans (around $8).

I don't know what they do the rice but it is incredible. The blackened fish tacos are great too. If you go at lunch time go early as the line is out the door. They are fast and the line goes quickly but get there early.

Despite the generic name, it's better than Wahoo's and Rubio's, although it generally shares the same menu items with both chains. I had a combo plate with a blackened fish taco and a carne asada taco. It came with a giant serving of rice (at least three scoops all in a row) which looked bland but tasted of lime and was delicious. The black beans were moist and plentiful and also very good. And both tacos were good, especially the fish one which was not covered in batter. And give this place a bonus point for actually having a server deliver your food to you, with napkins and a real fork. I was expecting having to eat with a spork like at every other joint. Super crazy busy at lunchtime and I can see why.

OMG! Baja Fish Tacos is amazing. A lot of people compare this place to Baja Fresh or Wahoo's but I think its like comparing apples and oranges. When you look at Baja Fresh or Wahoo's you instantly think of Americanized Mexican food, but I think what makes Baja Fresh different in concept is that its a Mexican restaurant or joint that is Americanized. There is a subtle difference and let me explain. Americanized Mexican food is just food that the average person in the US can eat without thinking its too strange or foreign to eat. While an Mexican restaurant that is Americanized has chairs, tables, and marketing propaganda that looks "American", but the food that comes out of the kitchen has some roots from south of the border. Now I am not saying the food here is authentic (far from it), but you can are least see those "roots" in the beans and the way the food on the plates come out to your table. We went half and half on the 2 taco combo with 1fish taco and 1 blackened shrimp taco. I opted for pinto beans because black beans make me feel sick after eating them (don't know why). The fish taco is very very good, but the blackened shrimp taco is even better. I normally avoid shrimp at places because they tend to resemble rubber in both taste and texture, but the taco was amazing. And don't think of those beans as a side dish because they had to been some of the best I have had from a non-authentic place. Wrapping it up... you have to try this place. The food is great and your looking at under $10 for your meal. An excellent for lunch or any meal for that matter. 5 star!

I came here last friday with a FRIEND. who is also a coworker. but more importantly a FRIEND because we decided to try a different taco place everyweek. We'll see how that works out. Got the combo, for around 10 dollars you get beans, yummy rice, yummy tacos. My favorite is the shrimp taco...it's actually one of the best I've ever had. Baja isn't exactly your dirty-mexican food place, it's a little bit pricer and the food is a little bit more....reliable I guess you can say. It's still delicious though. I've had the burritoes before - they're baby-sized, and red sauce is tasier than green sauce. There's also buy one get one free corona's for happy hour! I've done that a couple times and it's like getting free happiness. ShrimptacoShrimptacoShrimptacoShrimptacoShrimptacoShrimptaco

Good: BFT is one of my fave local spots for cheap, good food! The carne asada tacos are awesome! The portions are generous and you can't beat the prices. One taco plate with rice and beans is plenty. They also have an excellent salsa bar and the service is fast and friendly. Bad: The super long lunch line is the only downside, but it's avoidable if you don't mind an early or late lunch/dinner.

  • Sue S.

Whoa, best blackened fish tacos I've ever had! Ordering the combo will give you a choice of beans on the side, but I think black beans is still the way to go. Good, fresh, yummy stuff! It's a happening place, though. You order at the counter first and then wait for your food, but by noon, the line extends way out the door. Get here early or just do a takeout. Parking is not a problem.

On our roadtrip from SF to SD, we stopped here to meet up with my friend and his GF. From soaking from sweat in the truck, we were excited to indulge in some mexican food and an ice cold beer. Well I would not say this place disappointed any of us, but it definitely wasn't the best mexican food I've ever had. Just A-ok as the stars say. I ordered the Unwrapped Burrito salad, and thought it was pretty good! I especially enjoyed the chips and guac we ordered to start. Maybe I should've actually ordered something more interesting like tacos...probably would've been better. Still the place was super crowded, and seemed like it would be a fun place to go on a lunch break if I worked in the area (as my friends did).

I'm usually not one to stand in line, but for this place, I will. The lunch crowd can get a little deep, but once I have "BFT" in my head, there's no turning back. I, like everyone else, dig the blackened fish tacos. Fresh, flavorful and oh-so-good with the right amount of lime squeezed on top, they rock. And that white rice they do is the perfect compliment. Oh, and the massive chicken burrito with the hold-me-now white sauce is again, well worth the wait. I think what bumps them from a four star place to a five star is consistency. Well done BFT.

This is the second location I've been to... I like the Laguna Niguel location the best. My favorite here is the shrimp burrito. No beans no rice, just shrimpssss (they're pretty generous on how many they put it in), shredded cabbage, cheese and that yummy sauce! Fresh pico de gallo and different types of salsa too! Here's why I like the LN location better though... The same burrito I get at there is bigger, more cheese and made neater. You can tell even by the way the cabbage was shredded (shredded vs roughly chopped). I loooove the shrimp burrito, but I'll definitely go back to the other location.

I love the rice here. The tacos are delicious, the enchiladas are stuffed to perfection, the chips aren't greasy, and the salsa is the bomb. But what it all comes down to is the rice. It's perfect. Simply perfect.

4 stars on the shrimp taco alone. I finally tried this place and got a shrimp taco and carne asada burrito. The carne asada was just ok and the tortillas this place uses suck but the shrimp taco was outstanding. I would come back for that.

I'm convinced that everything here is butter-infused, including the silverware and furniture. It has one of those super-generic names that make you think you've tried it in some random mall food court somewhere, even though you haven't. Get the shrimp tacos asap and walk away happy.

O.M.G. So Ive always thought Rubio's was THE one for me but then I tried this place (after reviewing it on Yelp, of course) and it really lives up to the hype! I ordered a shrimp burrito and seriously its like a shrimp or two in each bite. YEAYUH! I phoned my order in for pickup and I do highly recommend doing that because the line was pretty long when I got there during lunch hour. Seriously, it can not even compare to Rubio's and I am so happy to have found this place ..

This place has great fish tacos! Went here today after a ~13 mile mtn bike ride in crystal cove, so I came with a fierce appetite- I got the 2-taco combo, but should've just had one. Each taco is large and has a ton of good quality fish - I ordered one fried and on char-broiled, and both were cooked very nicely. The best part is you get huge filets of fish, not just whatever junk was left over after they cut up the best parts of the fish. Rice is yummy, if you like a little butter in it (I do!), and beans were so-so. The salsas were flavorful, but not spicy enough for me. One thing to be sure to try are the picked onions, they are awesome. In summary, if you like wahoo's or rubios, prepare to be blown away by the stuff here, its on a different level, but still reasonably priced.

I friggin love this place. I always get the blackened fish taco al a carte which is easily 2 tacos and after 3pm or on weekends 2 beers for 1. The tacos are good but add on the red salsa and the onions in lime sauce and unicorn horns or something and the only thing missing from this place is the beach. The staff is always accommodating and friendly. Baja Fish Tacos I believe is Spanglish for the Pleasure Zone. Oh YEAHHHHHH!!!!!.

I haven't been here in awhile, and I miss the mahi mahi bowl. It's so satisfying because the rice has tons of butter in it. They give you a huge portion of fish, it's always fresh and hot. Their fish tacos are also great. I suggest the grilled mahi mahi tacos. They give you more fish than the tortilla will fit! The tortilla soup is good, except there are pickles in it and I hate pickles. The manager always gives us free chips if we eat there (there's a salsa bar) and is very friendly.

I like the one in Santa Ana a lot. I tried visiting this one in Lake Forest but it had the most grubby grimmey looking people standing in front the restaurant. I had to do a double take & lock my doors. I was thinking, "Hold on isn't this South OC"??? Why does everyone look like Jesse James wanna be badasses, biker??? I took myself back to Santa Ana where it's SAFE!!

I either eat at this location or the one in laguna niguel. Both are equally good. I have to say their shrimp tacos and ensanada fish taco's are the best taco's i have ever had in my life. Must try!!

I enjoyed. The beer battered fish tacos were yummy...and seems exactly like wahoo's..A little pricey for me since I dig Chronic Taco and they always come in under my budget....WORD

This place is awesome! They have the most incredible food. Every aspect of their food is great. The guacamole is delicious. The chicken and carne asada are always prepared perfect. The buttery rice is great. Generous amounts of cheese are always included. The services is prompt and efficient. You may see a line at lunch, but it moves fast!

This place is pretty good, nice portions, ok price $$. I usually get the two taco combo with seasoned white rice and black beans. Wow! This location has a nice sized dinning area, but it fills up fast, especially during lunch.

I thought I would never find a better fish taco than Wahoo's...until I tried Baja Fish Tacos. The blackened fish tacos are great - very moist, with just enough spice. The guacamole is very good. The only improvement I would suggest would be to add brown rice to the menu. This place gets packed for lunch, so an earlier lunch (11:00 to 11:45) is recommended.

I eat here once a week for lunch. I have to arrive before the lunch rush because the line is always out the door! The line moves fast and service is superb. The food is delicious. I switch off between the taco enchilada plate or the unwrapped burrito. Their food is amazing!

I first went to Baja Fish Tacos in Santa Ana. It was so good I came home and husband here. Both places were consistent in flavor. It was DELICIOUS. I have tried a lot of fish tacos and I really like the flavor here. The fish platter was very generously portioned, worth the $10. We went late afternoon before the dinner rush and it was very quiet. Even when it's busy during lunch, the atmosphere is still great.

Pinto Beans are amazing! Their carne asada is fantastic! Their Guac, by far one of the best! Fish tacos, delicious! Their fish taco's rank up their with California Fish Grills, fish tacos.

I love this place, I swear...best Mexican in Orange County. Their beans and rice are excellent, carne is mouth wateringly good, and blackened fish is so tasty.

you know what makes this place awesome? the fish and meat is on par with most good mexican restaurants, but it's the rice and beans... i'm not talking about the black beans... i'm talkin' about good legit refried pinto beans. i've eaten a lot of refried beans in my time... and these are some of the best, next to the ones i've had in mexico. YUMMO.

i've never been disappointed here. i know everyone talks about the tacos (which don't get me wrong, are delicious), but the shrimp enchiladas are the reason i keep going back. i'm a total enchilada junkie, and this place always hits the spot. the shrimp is well seasoned, buttery, plump, and cooked to perfection. not to mention the melted cheese is generously piled on. pair that with rice and beans, and you've got heaven on a plate. their roasted tomato salsa is amazing too...it definitely has a kick and great flavor which in my opinion makes it hard for other mexican joints to beat. if you are extra hungry, order chips w/ guacamole to begin with and you will not regret it. love this place! i think i will be eating here for dinner tonight.

Ahhh Baja, you never disappoint me, except when I take you to go (the portions seem smaller esp the tacos). Not really authentic mexi food but oh so good. I love it when food places only have only a couple of items and those couples are done right! I love the fish I love the carne asada, I love the rice and the pinto beans. I usually get the taco, enchilada combo and it's A LOT of food. I get massive amounts of onions and cilantro and dump it over the beans and rice and I squeeze like 5 limes on the whole thing. The red sauce and generous cheese is SOOO good on the enchilada. I like it here better than Wahoos and waaay better than Rubios. Oh how can i forget the service? Perfection! The servers don't even get tip and they are so attentive and fast with everything. Always courteous and always makes you feel welcomed.

My whole family loves this place. It is always packed, with good reason! The guacamole is a must! My husband loves the salsa bar, especially spicy onions. The fish tacos are great, so are the carne asada tacos. This is a great place to take the family!

May be a bit pricier than other taco shops but worth every dollar. The food is tasty and ur definately gonna be full. I was a big fan of thier white rice, try it out for yourself. There's also a couple of big screens inside.

Good stuff! I used to work around the corner from this location. I really miss it. If you go at lunch be prepared for a line if you don't call in. If you call, you can walk right up to the counter to pay. The line moves really fast though.

Everything on their menu is excellent. My personal favorites are the shrimp fish taco and blackened fish taco. Service is fast and the food always tastes great. They get a big lunch time rush so you might be waiting on line and/or for a table. This is one of my favorite places for fish tacos.

We decided to try this place on a whim, after passing by on the freeway and seeing a line form out the door. The curiosity was rewarded with some of the most flavorful and fresh fish tacos I've ever digested. I prefered the blackened fish taco over the charbroiled, simply because it popped with more zest from the added seasoning and spices. The prices are a tad on the pricey side because they don't skimp out on the fish. With a friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere, I'll definitely be back to try the other items on their menu.

Hands down, my fav mexican joint. I must eat here at least twice a month, and I've been ordering the same thing for bout 2 years now, a steak taco-cheese enchilada combo. Your food is served to you so u don't have to stand at attention listening for your darn number. They use real silverware and plates...no plastic forks and knives. It's cool they always have newspapers ready if ya wanna catch up on yesterdays scores. So, besides having the tastiest mexican food, Baja Fish Tacos just knows whats up and does everything right.

    1. No Burrito Chicken Salad- Good portion and price. The chicken is really moist and on top of a bed of romaine, red onions, corn, tomato, radish and guacamole. I put some pico de gallo on the salad and eat it w/out the dressing b/c it's really flavorful already without the ranch dressing. And I never eat salad without dressing! 2. Rice- Buttery and very good. 3. Fish Tacos- Fresh and ensenada style. Battered with sour cream sauce and cabbage on top.

I would eat here all the time when I was working in Irvine. The food tasted pretty good and all their dishes give you a hearty portion of meats. The problem with this place is that it is not authentic Mexican food, but rather American food served with a stick of butter. The rice, beans, tortillas, etc are just lathered with butter, so of course it is going to taste good.

What a nice surprise! These are some great tacos. I had the shrimp taco combo and a carne asada taco. The shrimp tacos were gorgeous---some sort of slaw, a nice...crispy (the texture is one I've encountered before in tortillas. the sort of blistered outside with the chewy inside? Yeah. That.) shell, and some insanely juicy and flavorful shrimp. A bit rich, though, and I don't think I'd get two again, they're just really filling. But oh so good. The carne asada taco was good too, and served like they serve the tacos at Los Sanchez---flat at first, with a corn tortilla and too much lettuce to close up the taco. I took some off, and put on some pickled onions...mmm, with thyme. Good stuff. A bit dry, but next time I'll put on some of their tomatillo salsa and all will be good. I'm not too thrilled with their rice, though. Beans are OK, not the best, a bit runnier than I like them, but OK. But the rice is just...kinda lackluster and tasted a bit like Uncle Ben's. No big deal---I'll come back for the tacos, if not the rice!

As far as Mexican Fast Food Places, this is the best you will ever find. The meats are perfectly cooked, the salsa are soooo tasty, the rice is to-die-for and beans are delicious. Something as simple as a bean and cheese burrito (pinto beans) is so satisfying. The taco plate (I usually get steak and chicken) with rice and pinto beans, and the unwrapped burrito are my favorites. And, they sell beer- my husband likes that. The employees are also very nice.

Love this place! Go there every Friday with my co-workers & I always have the Baja Bowl. This comes with rice, choice of pinto or black beans, choice of meat (chicken, steak, blackened fish, etc.) and topped with white cheese, lettuce & pico de gallo. The salsa bar, is great, although the chips are not complimentary like at most Mexican restaurants. The best part is their rice; it's always delicious. It does get pretty busy during lunch hours but the service is very fast; you would probably have to get it to go if you can't make it there by 11:45 a.m., especially on a Friday.

wahoo's and rubio's don't have anything on baja fish taco! my co-workers and i are always looking for a new, good place to go for lunch so when we heard about this place we had to go. since then, this has probably been of our most frequented lunch venues. the blackened fish is DEEELICIOUS. i've had it in the the baja bowl and in the tacos (which btw are HUGE. you could probably make 2 tacos from 1!) and love it in both forms. my last time there i got the taco + enchilada combo, enchiladas not something i normally order at a mexican joint, but i had the carne asada enchilada and was quite impressed. all combos also come with a decent portion of rice and beans. i don't know what they put in the rice but it's soooooooo good. i'm normally not a big fan of beans either but i can always manage to finish off the side of beans i get. and to top off all the deliciousness is their salsa bar options. their spiciest salsa is just the perfect amount of hotness, flavorful but not too spicy where it's all you can taste. my favorite is the soaked onions. it has a really strong sour taste but mixing it in with the rice, beans and salsa gives it a taste of perfection i can't describe. it's a weird taste but for some reason i really like it. it gets pretty crowded during lunch time so it's probably best to avoid the 12-1 lunch hour if you can

I've been going to Baja Fish Tacos for a little over 4 years now as I work across the street in Irvine. The location is consistently busyduring lunch hours, with the line often wrapping to the outside of the building. This alone is a testament to the quality and deliciousness of their food. As I'm almost always on some sort of high protein, low carb diet, I frequent this place for their unwrapped burrito, which is essentially a salad that you can add a meat of your choice to. However, when I'm in the mood for something good, I order their carne asada plate with their unbelievable pinto beans (seriously, what do they put in those things?) and buttery rice. Of all the restaurants you can go for lunch in the area for Mexican food, I feel that this place stands out for their ability to deliver great Mexican food at a decent price.

Yum! The food is fresh and tasty. It's a good alternative to Wahoo's. My husband is not a big Wahoo's fan, but I love it so I had to find somehwere similar that he wouldn't moan and groan about going to. Anyway, I didn't think I would like anyone else's rice (since Wahoo's is so yummy), but Baja Fish Tacos' rice is awesome! It's so tasty and buttery. I love getting their shrimp tacos combo platter with all rice and no beans. Their ensenada style fish tacos are great as well. If you go on a weekend day, the beers are buy one get one free, so that's a bonus for us! Everyone that works there is very nice and it's never super crowded. There are a few other locations in OC, but I've only been to this one and the one in Santa Ana by South Coast Plaza. I don't like the Santa Ana one as much, but it's still good.

Baja fish tacos is the best! The food is delicious, the staff is so friendly, and the restaurant is super clean. My favorites- the blackened fish tacos combo which are served Cajun-style with rice and melt-in-your mouth pinto beans and the steak quesadilla served with guacamole and sour cream. This dish is surprisingly not greasy at all. The salsa bar is amazing. I don't know what is in their salsas, but they are so good! Disclosure: Even though the line is always long, don't let this turn you away, because it goes really quickly.

My family and I stopped in for a quick lunch. I now understand why my brother prefers this place for tacos. It's so fresh and tasty! All the soft tacos were $3.40 a piece except the shrimp taco which was $4.75. Blackened fish taco - Delicious! I had imagined it to be completely black, but it was grilled just right with what I thought was the perfect amount of spice added on. Mm...pico de gallo. Charbroiled fish taco - Didn't look like much. Don't get me wrong, it tasted good, but since it was on the same plate as the blackened fish and shrimp taco, the charbroiled fish taco just paled in comparison. Thanks goodness for that pico de gallo! Shrimp taco - OMG. YUM. This was knocked-my-sandals-off scrumptious! I counted a total of 6 whole pieces of shrimp. The flavors of the garlic butter, white wine, cotija cheese, baja sauce, fresh tomatoes and cabbage just melded so damn well together. What a joy to bite into this piece of work. Uh oh...I'm actually salivating as I type this... Their salsa bar offered something I'd never seen before: pickled onions. Well, holy habanero, were they spicy! If you can take the heat, definitely go for it! The tacos are good as is, but with extra salsa makes it better! They also carry a nice selection of domestic/imported beer as well as soft drinks like Jarritos and Mexican Coca Cola. I'm just so happy there are four locations in Orange County. Baja Fish Tacos, I don't mind paying $5 for your shrimp tacos as long as you don't skimp on the shrimp and keep your tantalizing flavors consistent...

First of all, Baja Fish Tacos is on my speed dial. I love everything about these restaurants. They play culturally appropriate music. (I hate when ethnic restaurants play top 40s) they lightly toast your burrito. Everything tastes fresh service is fast. Employees are nice. The shrimp platter is amazing. The veggie burrito will not disappoint. Salsa bar is on point and fresh. Corn tortillas are not homemade but they taste like they could be. I eat here at least once a week. I used to go to Las Golandrinas but Baja's burritos are much better. And they have sea food and salsa bar. Also the staff is much nicer and faster

I am not a big fan of Mexican food, mainly because living in California forces me to limit my choice to either Mexican, or fusion with Mexican twist, so I am tired of Mexican influenced food. But, ironically I do crave Mexican food sometimes. I prefer modernized, or Americanized, or not too traditionally authentic Mexican food, and this place meets my preferences. I especially love their cheesy Nachos with Carne Asada, I like their guacamole that is pretty bland but true taste of fresh avocados, and the cheesy wet burrito in green sauce. I got fish burrito this time, it was fresh and clean. For Nachos chips, I prefer this location to the one in Costa Mesa/Santa Ana(?) (on Bristol). The chips here are thinner, crispier and less oily. All condiments on the salsa table, are fresh and clean, the onion pickle which is a bit spicy, but it adds a great flavor to everything. Clean restroom, clean and modern interior, kitchen, and easy ordering process, friendly staff, and less crowded is a plus in this location. Why minus 1 star? Maybe because the building itself is old, when I enter the place, first thing it greets me is some kind of old library smell that makes me loose appetite a bit.

I don't know why but this location isn't as good as the Santa Ana store. However, this place has a lot less foot traffic. I always have to order ahead when going to Santa Ana's location because the line is always out the door. Laguna Hills, not so much! Two taco combo plate -- The combo plate comes with rice and beans. You have your choice of meat. I tend to get the charbroiled fish as the blackened version is a little dry. Their Ensanada style is a lot healthier as the breading is miniscule. Their tacos are double-wrapped with corn tortillas and topped with a ton of shredded lettuce. The lettuce is always super fresh and crispy but sometimes it is a bit of an overkill. I find myself throwing some out because I want to taste that fresh fish. The condiments bar is self-serve so make sure you pack whatever you want. I like my food to have a bit of a kick so I get the green salsa and seasoned onions. I always carry a pack of gum when eating here because those onions are extremely potent!

I love Baja Fish tacos, they have some of the best quality fish around! Service is great, the store clean and well kept. The salads and bowls are tasty, my husband loves the shrimp and carne asada. Tacos are skimpy, the burritos, bowls and salads are a much better value. Well stocked, fresh and tasty salsa bar, great place to have a light and healthy lunch in the area.

First time here and love it. They have super friendly staff and amazing food. Everything is fresh and of the highest quality. I have no complaints. I highly recommend ordering their white fish. It's their specialty and the best I ever had. My Baja bowl was the perfect size and filling. Their warm chips, hot salsa (IMO medium salsa), and smooth/chunky guacamole won me over. I can't wait to come back!

Always great tacos and burritos. Defines good Mexican food. Note I didn't say authentic or the best. When I take bites of the tacos, "good Mexican food" comes to mind. Well seasoned meats and solid carne asada. The charbroiled fish is flavorful and shrimp for the most part is an easy thumbs up from my taste buds. Also, good touch on offering cervezas. Adds to the Mexican food experience, particularly when there is a Dos Equis available (obviously for dinners). This location always busy for lunch and for the most part they have always been pretty efficient. 10-15 minutes for the food doing take out but considering the line out the door it's understandable. Parking not great in this small plaza.

Second time here. Was getting my car tint touched up and was in the neighborhood with time to kill and an empty stomach. Last time was a so-so experience. Was expecting a really good set of fish tacos due to the reviews but was quite underwhelmed. This time I ordered the carne asada and Ensenada style fish taco. Still a bit underwhelmed but not as much as last time. Maybe because my expectations were lower. However, I quite enjoyed the carne asada. Liked the marinade and the balance with the rest of the ingredients was good. First time I've had cheese in a carne asada but it wasn't bad. For me, still not close to 5 stars but a solid 4.0. I still like Rubios fish tacos better even though it's a chain.

I did the combo plate for lunch and soon realized it would be a huge undertaking to finish this massive plate of food. The food was hot, fast and delicious. I ended up eating the whole thing. Go early for lunch especially if you have a larger group. It's open seating after you order.

Great carne asada tacos for the quick bite. Me and my bros hit this place up while heading down to Camp Pendleton every other month or so and haven't been disappointed once. The portions are generous and taste is amazing. This is definitely a great place to get your Mexican food fix!

  • Lara D.

I always get the combo tacos with rice and beans. And I always surprise myself because I gobble the entire plate down. Scarf it. Those carne asada tacos. Ooh baby. The buttery warm mexican styled white rice and the satisfying black beans. Then there's the salsa bar where you can have your fill of pico de gallo and salsa. My heart and stomach are content.

This place is located in a busy plaza- lots of parking though. It looks like your typical Baja Fresh, rubies, etc.. But the food is so much better. I got the shrimp burrito (9.50) and there was so much shrimp in it. Typically places skimp you and give you like 5 pieces max but this burrito was filled with regular sized shrimp. The yummy saltiness was from the cotija cheese and the rice was cooked properly. The cabbage gave it a refreshing crunch and my burrito was evenly portioned out. I'll typically eat burritos with globs of rice in one section and meat in another, but I was able to get a piece of each ingredient. My Bf got the blackened fish taco and carne asada burrito and it looked yummy. He frequents this place a lot and i didn't know why. Now that I've tried it, I'll be back for more!!

The food and service here is always great. The blackened fish is my favorite. The rice is straight up addictive It does get ridiculously crowded at times. I've had to leave here, more then once just because it's so damn crowded I can't even get my foot in the door

    (5)
  • Daniel S.

The first time I came here it was really crowded and it took about 15 minutes to get a seat. I came here a second time with my coworkers and the moment I stepped in here it smelled like sweaty armpits. It was not the best aroma to be surrounded by when you're trying to eat a burrito. I got the blackened fish burrito which my coworkers recommended. I got my food fairly quickly in about 5 minutes. The mouth felt no excitement whatsoever with the first bite or the second or the third. The burrito didnt't taste bad but it just really lacked any flavor. I decided to get some sauces from the a la carte condiments bar, hoping that it would give the burrito more potential flavor. Nope. The burrito could not be saved. The sauces themselves lacked any flavor. Overall, I would have preferred to eat at Chipotle. However if there's no Chipotle close by, Baja Fish Tacos is good enough to satisfy a burrito craving.

Baja Steak salad with the champagne dressing is a winner every time! Consistent quality & not a long wait even if the line is out the door! I keep saying I'll try something different while I'm on my way there, but then I'll just miss out on my favorite so I always stick with the same order lol

I been here few times now sine my work moved our office close to this area. the fried fish was little too robbery , but that was just one day. I had a salad with their steak which was nice. I do like their rice and beans. its smothered with butter. I do genuinely like their salsa bar. and they are like the only restaurant to keep big size cups for salsa so you dont have carry like 16 tubs of salsa, individually!

  • Felix L.

Baja Fish Taco is my favorite place to visit when craving for Baja-style tacos. There's always a line out the door because it's a fast food joint, meaning it's easy to get in and out during lunch, and the menu is highly simplified, so there is something for everyone in the office assuming he or she has average American tastes. Their signature item is the Ensenada-style fish taco, where fish fillets are dipped in beer batter and fried. Nothing beats crisp pieces of fish coated with a creamy tart sauce, stuffed with fresh salsa, all wrapped in a warm corn tortilla. The combination tastes even better with creamy guacamole layered throughout the soft taco. The rest of the menu appears to be generic, such as the blackened fish burrito and Baja salad. It's hard to differentiate Baja Fish Tacos from chains like Rubios, Wahoo's Fish Taco, or California Fish Grill for these items with hardly any Mexican flavors. Personally, I am not a fan of Baja's blackened fish because it has a rubbery and chewy texture that reminds me of chicken. One of Baja's strengths is their salsas, which surprisingly pack in more flavors than most local taquerias, especially the roasted tomato salsa with explosive smoky flavor. Even the salsa verde which is usually mild elsewhere has a spicy and tangy kick at Baja. Why buy salsa jars at supermarkets when Baja's fresh salsa are worthy to take home? Now onto the bad news. Baja is a place that health conscious people would want to stay far away from. The rice and beans are heavily seasoned with buttered (no wonder it's so moist and appetizing), shrimp is sauteed in garlic and butter, and wet burritos are aggressively drenched with a bland mole sauce and melted cheese which can easily double the calories of your meal. Baja is a fast food operation that batch processes everything, so they cannot prepare individual portions of plain rice or beans without butter, even for those sensitive to dairy. For the average person, be prepared for food coma and laps on the track to burn off your meal. If you're vegetarian and decide to order a veggie burrito, be prepared to be asked if you want to add meat for additional $. I think that's a little disrespectful. I can't believe it costs a fortune for chips and guacamole. $6 at a fast food restaurant?? Holy guacamole! Overall, I think that Baja is a usually reliable and consistent eatery worth visiting when craving for flavors south of the CA border. It's no doubt the most office-lunch friendly restaurant in the Laguna Hills area. There are lines out the door everyday despite not having any promotions like Taco Tuesday. It can however be boring to those who prefer a more authentic representation of Baja/Tijuana food. If that's what you want, ditch the lunch crowd and head over to Los Tacos Ricos down the street.

Is it too much to ask of a restaurant: 1) to be clean 2) have consistently good food 3) use fresh ingredients Obviously it is too much to ask because most restaurants can't do it. Baja Fish Tacos gets it. But I really appreciate that because I also know that this quality and service does not come by accident. It comes from a management and owners who are relentless on improving and maintaining high standards. I don't know who owns or runs that place but thank you for doing your job so well. The place is called Fish Tacos but I've never tried the fish tacos bc I always prefer meat to fish. I work in Garden Grove and live in Irvine but I've been looking for excuses to go down there. A lot of car dealerships nearby so I started car shopping. But now, I like the place so much, the food is the reason why I drive down. I always get the carne asada burrito with the beans and rice. And I've been going there like once or twice a week. The meat is just perfectly marinated and grilled. I hate a lot of Mexican restaurants that serve cheap carne asada. It's like all minced meat that's charred and cut up in tiny pieces to hide the low grade meat. And it's often cooked way in advance and all dried up. I guess if you add some good pico de gallo, strong salsa, and grease it up a bit, you can mask the low quality meat- esp if your tortillas are good. But here you get real flap steak cut up in nice big pieces and you can tell it was cooked recently and not 5 hours ago. And the meat is always tender. The rice and beans are also perfectly cooked. The pico de gallo is fresh and well marinated. My only complaint: the pickled sliced onions in the salsa bar is way too salty. I still eat it bc I love pickled onions but it would make everything so much better if that onion was less salty. But everything else is perfect. Ambiance is just right. Always clean (even the bathrooms). It's usually packed but they are fast and you don't have to wait too long because they are pretty efficient. Can't go wrong with this place.

Never disappointed! The food is fresh and quickly made to order. We come here at least once a week. The entire menu is delicious. My boys love the rice and beans..they are actually very very good!!

I have been eating here for years. Their food is always consistently good. I have even used them to cater to personal parties of mine. The staff, food, and service are all top notch. Sure it's a little bit pricier than fast food but the portions are big enough to split. First time here? Order the blackened fish burrito, slice it in half and pour the green salsa down the middle.

I live all the way in Oceanside and drive about an hour and a half just to eat the tacos. They have the best fish tacos around, and all the other food looks great to but I can't seem to ever eat anything else but the fish taco every time I come. I have never been when there wasn't a line out the door, it's in a random spot but everyone seems to find their way here.

So happy I finally made it a point to come here. I've heard a lot about this place in the last couple years and can't believe it took me this long to visit. I went on Sunday around 1:00 for lunch and it was pretty crowded. There was a line almost out the door and every table in the place was full. They had a soccer game and a football game on and they sell beer (bottles only) in the cooler, so I can see this being a great casual lunch spot to catch half a game. It's very casual like a Baja Fresh though, so it's not like you'd be wanting to sit there for long. Anyway I went to order and I was asking the girl if the fish or shrimp was better and she spoke English, but it was a bit broken and she was started to confuse me so we figured it out in Spanish...this place is not super authentic Mexican, so I was surprised to find someone not speaking fluent English, but it seems like everyone else in there were regulars and didn't need help with the menu anyway and lucky for me I speak Spanish. Anyway I ended up with a one taco combo with the blackened fish...your other options are regular fish (grilled), Ensenada style fish (breaded and fried), shrimp (extra charge), chicken or carne asada...no carnitas unfortunately. The combo comes with rice and either black or pinto beans, I went with pinto after reading a million reviews recommending them. Despite it being so busy, my food literally came out in five minutes. I helped myself to the salsa bar...pretty standard, a pico, a mild and a hot...they were all good. When I opened my to-go box of food I was surprised at how much food there was...one taco was definitely enough. I looked at the rice and figured it was just typical white rice and I probably wouldn't even eat it, but then I took a bite and literally said "woah" out loud to myself. It is SO good. Comfort food at its finest...the rice is perfectly cooked and spiced and is put into overdrive by the fact that its buttered. Man, that rice is good. The pinto beans are authentic and served a bit "soupy" how they are best served...the pinto beans were also complete magic. I'm not a rice and beans fan, in fact, they are usually left untouched on my plate, but the rice and beans here almost overshadowed the taco, which was also amazing. The blackened fish was super flavorful, it was just topped with cabbage and maybe pico de gallo, but it was damn near perfect. I will absolutely be back here. I love the more gringo Mexican food chains in So Cal like Baja Fresh and Wahoo's, but Baja Fish Tacos is on a different playing field.

My abuelo used to say you can tell how good a Mexican Restaurant is by the quality of their beans. The beans here are delicious! My staple meal is a fish enchilada with salsa Verde, a shrimp taco, and beans only no rice. Excellent meal, fairly priced around $10, healthy, and delicious with different flavors. See my pic to see how it's all served on their own plates. Love this place and have been to several locations. This one is conveniently located.

Had the encanada taco and a carne Assad burrito. The taco was supposed to be their number one seller but I wasn't very impressed with it mediocre at best. The burrito on the other hand was very good. If your Recieving authentic here you'll be disappointed but as soon as I came to that realization I really enjoyed it. Was more of a Cali fresh style burrito with a good amount of guac and very tasty butter rice.

I have been coming to this establishment for about six years now and I've always been happy by the professionalism and cleanliness of the salsa bar. I usually get the blackened fish tacos à la carte and it's very healthy and easy on the stomach. I would say I have come here about 80 times in my life so far. I have never been unsatisfied. They also have a location near South Coast Plaza on Bristol Street in Santa Ana and the other location is down south in Laguna Niguel off Crown Valley Parkway.

We shared a Carne Asada platter, cheese and beans nachos and cheese enchiladas. This is an amazing place to eat Mexican food. Get here early or you will be standing in a long line to order. Great Job Baja Fish Taco. :-)

This place is close to my work, it can get pretty busy at lunch time... i guess that is because their food is so delicious & fresh. A little secret, if you call your order in ahead of time you can avoid the long line and go straight to the cash register for phone orders. Highly recommend!

Great place for a quick but extremely filling meal! This was the first time I couldn't finish 2 tacos - they were pilled so high - yum! You can tell by the constant stream of people coming in that this a very popular locals place!

I was recommended this place by a coworker. Not a huge restaurant but there are a moderate amount of places to eat. It gets crowded at lunch time though so good luck finding a seat. The parking lot out front isn't too big but there's one over to the side of the restaurant which has ample parking. There is literally a line extending outside of the door during lunch hour. What I did was I called ahead and placed an order (which took a little while as they are quite busy but it was ready when I came in about 15 minutes). The line moves fast and service is good. Now for the food! I got the shrimp taco combo (which comes with beans and rice). Firstly, the taco was quite tasty! I'd actually never had a shrimp taco prior to this (this is weird because I am a shrimp lover!) it was tasty and had tons of filling :) I was quite satisfied. The beans were tasty and warm but pretty watery (dunno if that's what you're into). Not that the beans were too soft but there was so much excess fluid. Didn't detract from the flavor though. The rice that came with the combo was a very buttery white rice. If you like that, that's great, the flavor was good. But I'm not into tasting butter in my rice (too much fat gives me stomach probs... if you know what I mean). Lastly, the pico de gallo was really good, I would eat that stuff straight. Overall, I would recommend this place if you are around the area! It's not something so exceptional that you need to drive here and try it, but it's quite good :) Not an absolute favorite but I would come again.

Great service Food is always great. Male workers so attentive to enduring needs. Woman ehh sort of snappy & rude. I feel like I'm in a stare-ing contest when the lady with excessive makeup is there. All they do is stare. Like come on I'm eating but I can get you a picture that will last longer? :D Everything else great!

Grabbed some lunch here for the first time last week and I was surprised at how amazing their tacos were. I ordered the Ensenada fish taco combo and a shrimp taco. The fish was crispy and flaky and the sauce was amazing. The shrimp tacos were great because there was shrimp in every bite. Didn't eat too much of my beans cuz I was so full but the buttered white rice definitely got finished. They have a great salsa bar as well. For this location you want to get there before 1115 on the weekdays so you can beat the rush as this is a popular spot by a lot of work places.

It wasn't the best nor was it the worst. My company had it catered the other day, and I recall it being pretty good. They catered carne asada, chicken, rice, beans, tortillas and rice so I made mini tacos. I came back today and was let down. I ordered the chicken enchilada and carne asada taco combination. For starters, I'm not a fan of my meal all being squished on one plate. I hate when food touches. The plates were packed, so if you have a hearty appetite, you won't be let down; however if you like real Mexican food, you will be. They serve buttered white rice which was good the first time around (catered) but it did not go well with my enchilada. I requested cheese on my pinto beans but they were completely smothered so I was basically eating a bean at a time with clumps of cheese. The enchilada was so-so, I wouldn't order it again. I did like that they had breast pieces though. Not sure where the disconnect was this time around, perhaps I was just starving at work. What a bummer, I was really looking for a good Mexican restaurant in the Irvine vicinity.

Yum yum yum! Best shrimp burrito I've ever had, I opt for no rice so it's just shrimp, cabbage and the most fabulous sauce. Must have! The unwrapped burrito salad is pretty amazing too. Love the salsa bar and the pickled onions...they are extra spicy but perfect to add on top of salad or in your burrito. Nachos and tacos are awesome too. Pretty much try anything, you can't go wrong here.

How could I have forgotten how great the food is at Baja Fish Tacos?! I used to work near the Santa Ana location and went so often, it was a huge favorite of the office. I'm happy to report that it is back on my radar and the Lake Forest joint is just as great. yelp.com/biz_photos/baja… Is your mouth watering yet? You should now be craving this. I got the combo plate x 2 w/carne asada tacos, pinto beans, add cheese & white rice. You can also get fish or chicken in the tacos and it has lettuce, cheese and pico de gallo stuffed and overflowing out of the 2 overlapping corn tortillas. I choose pinto beans and add cheese for a few extra pennies, but you can also get black beans. Are you a nacho fan...then Baja Fish Tacos also has this for you, done right, but slightly different. Real cheese is used and all that monterey jack cheese is just warm and drippy over the chips. You can add meat for $2 and they give you plenty. You order and pay at the counter, credit cards are accepted, they do have beer, they do have a large salsa bar area with all kinds of mild to spicy goodies to add and you are given a number to take to your table, whereby some staff member will hand deliver your hot entree. Muy deliciouso! Believe the Yelp Hype.

This place was actually a lot better then I thought it was going to be. I've been told totally opposite from "it's great!" to "I'm not a fan." So I wasn't sure what to expect. Upon walking in today the restaurant smelled like cleaning supplies or bleach. Which was fine I guess, it was clean so that's a good but didn't make me say "I want to eat here." I ordered a two taco combo with pinto beans, one shrimp taco which was very tasty and filled with clean flavor, and an Ensenada style fish taco which was also very good. Comparing the two tacos however I might just go with the fish taco over the shrimp but both very delicious. Also, in the pictures the pinto beans looked good but the ones I received with my combo were bland and flavorless. But with the tacos loaded with flavor I didn't mind so much that the beans lacked jazz. Black beans were just slightly better, I tried a bite so I know.

Baja Fish Tacos is simple Mexican cuisine prepared exceptionally well. The menu is simple, like Chipotle if you're familiar with that, but much more delicious in my opinion. The menu is small, and consistent between all the restaurants in this chain. You pick your protein - fish, carne asada, chicken, beef, etc. You pick the preparation (i.e. taco, burrito, bowl, etc.) and add beans or rice. The guacamole is THE BEST. There's nothing else to say, other than it's always fresh and when I'm too lazy to make my own, I come here and pick up about $25 worth of it. The salsa is a bit spicy for my taste, but if you like some kick, you'll love it. Service is friendly and fast, even when it's packed.

Stinking good beer (Ensenada style) battered tacos. These put almost all fish tacos to shame. It you are new to fish tacos, I highly recommend that you try these.

Wow! Great tacos. Ensenada style taco was excellent. Great sauce and fish was nicely done in a light batter. Chicken taco was a huge soft taco served in 2 full size corn tortillas. Chicken was well seasoned and very moist.

I've been here a couple times now and both times the food amazing. The first time around I tried the white fish burrito, which was really good. The second time I tried the garlic shrimp burrito, and that was even better! The seafood always tastes super fresh and the customer service has always been good. Definitely worth trying!

Good American Mexican tacos, not authentic Mexican food. The rice was very buttery tasting a little too rich for my taste. Shrimp tacos are good but get them plain, this place puts cheese on fish tacos that is a big culinary NO. Salsa bar OK, not very clean but it was lunch rush time so I assume that was why.

  • Carlos E.

This place used to be good. Today my shrimp and fish platter were ready in less than 5mins. This leads me to conclude or was probably pre-cooked and they just warmed it up on the grill. Fish was so hard and dry it was gross. (Had take out, so could not show them). The shrimp tasted fresh, but these plates look rather boring. They are looking for help, so maybe they changed ownership? The guy taking my order was probably hating his job because asked me 3 times of eating in or take out, also joked around so much with the cooks. They are not a serious business and don't care about the customer. What happened to good c/s here?

  • Krystle G.

Tacos, Beans, Rice and Salsa are delicious and not too expensive. However, I wished the fish taco came with a little guacamole or something to really complete it. You know, I get it. You want to charge everyone for every little thing, but sometimes it should just come with the item so it completes the meal. But service was great and place is always clean.

After a morning of teaching motorcycle safety, I found myself hungry but without a particular craving. The owner at a nearby establishment suggested Baja Fish Tacos and I'm glad he didn't disappoint. Pulled up and the place was filled but there wasn't a line out the door like I was warned could be. Opted for two tacos - carne asada and one shrimp. I have to admit, I really enjoyed the hell out my lunch that day. I didn't even need to use any salsa as the ingredients were heaped on already to the point I couldn't even close my tacos. I didn't even have to worry about bad customer service. You place your order then take a seat with your number. They bring out your order and you eat your awesome meal. That's what happened to me.

Holy amazing fish tacos batman!!! I appreciate a good fish taco and so should you. The Ensenada style taco fills my gut at least once every two weeks! A few times ago when I went there an employee recommended I try them with the marinated onions!! How does amazing get better, I'll tell you Ensenada style tacos with marinated onions and the hot red salsa!! You won't regret it!!!

I tried Baja Fish Tacos for the first time today. Coincidentally, a friend of mine happened to be working about 5 minutes from my new work place. He suggested that we hit up this place for lunch today. Before entering, I noticed the patio area, which was full of patrons. This was a good sign, as a busy establishment means decent to good, maybe great food. I got the same thing as my buddy, and go the 1 taco (blackened fish), 1 enchilada (carne asada) combo, with pinto beans and rice. I have 2 words for the rice at this point: Butter Rice. Yes, the rice "appeared" plain, but it was moist and buttered. It was pleasant and enjoyable to eat. The pinto beans were soft and (dare I say this to describe beans?) velvety. The green sauce was just mild for me, as I am already used to certain amount of spiciness, The fish was perfectly cooked, with a mound of freshly chopped cabbage. The carne asada was soft and tasty. It had just enough of the seasoning. I didn't want to put too much salsa on it, as I wanted to taste all of the flavors of the meat. The salsa bar was abundant and had various sauces to choose from: salsa roja, salsa verde, pico de gallo, and pickled onions. I loved the crunchy pickled onions as they added another dimension and flavor. Tip: Go there just after 12:30PM or before "school" lets out. There is a high school across the street and you might need to contend with addition of the foot traffic from the school, both in the restaurant and crossing the street. As I am super picky and very choosy on where to spend my money, it means a lot to say that this place will now be on my regular lunch rotation from now on.

Great place to go when you're craving Mexican food. Wouldn't say they have the best fish tacos I've ever tried but I always manage to leave this place feeling happy. Here are some things I love about this place: 1. They get your food out quickly. 2. Salsa bar 3. The food itself - wouldn't say I'm a fan of beans but their pinto beans really stand out here! 4. Big portions. They don't skimp here. 5. You will always leave feeling satisfied and feel you got what you paid for!

This place is a bit pricey. I think it's terrible how much they charge for just chips!! Most places give you chips for free. But the food comes out so fast, it's not really necessary to get chips. I do like their salsas, they have a bite! Love their shrimp items (burrito and taco), they come with a great white sauce!! Cheese enchiladas are very gooey and cheesy.

Went to Baja Fish Tacos today and was really really disappointing. The prices are ridiculously high for a fast food place. Tortilla chips were extra on a combo! Really bad customer service. I tried calling the manager and they said TOO BAD!.. We charge for chips! Everything on the menu is about $11.00 and if you want sour cream or chips or anything else its extra $$$. I am not going back to Baja Fish Tacos

We go there every two weeks and the food is consistent and always great! Tacos, enchiladas, beans and rice are all amazing. Only negative is that they won't customize anything for you. We wanted to add chopped chilies in our enchilada, which is a pretty standard request at most places, and they refused.

My absolute favorite shrimp tacos. They're unbelievable! And they do easy meals for kids... a little chicken and rice or carne asada and rice - perfect. It's always packed but it's worth the extra couple of minutes.

Ordered the chicken enchilada and Ensenada taco combo here which was $8.50. Everything on my plate was so good! I cleaned out my plate even though they gave a lot of food. The staff were also very friendly and their salsa bar is legit. Love this place, definitely worth the good reviews

Lunch with 2 friends on a Sunday. Not too crowded, got some burrito plates, 2 beers and some chips and salsa to get started. We got our food but somehow they forgot to ring the chips and salsa, that's what we were told when we asked for it. Nevermind, they brought us some chips anyway and we got the salsa from the bar! Awesome customer service, that makes all the difference! The food was great too, so see you soon and we'll bring other friends also!

Good food, Have been coming to Baja Fish Taco off and on for at least 8 years now, recently took my brother here to get some food to go. As far as the food was concerned, no real complaints, the quality of the food has never been an issue for me, the service however was pretty miserable. I was rushed to put my order in, as if the attendant was annoyed that I was even ordering food... There were a whopping two people in line behind us, my brother and I both looked at eachother kind of shocked at how bad the service was. Hopefully this isn't the norm, I can't speak to what the service is like daily anymore, but my last visit definitely lowered my expectations and desire to return anytime soon.

Probably the second worst Mexican restaurant I have been to. I had the enchiladas which should be called blandchiladas. They had no flavor besides a terrible tomato sauce. The pinto beans they came with were watered down and also bland city. To top it off they serve white rice! The total cost for two people eating was $30 so I expected the meal to be at least decent. I think they are trying to be a copycat of Baja Fresh. Staff was not very friendly but I will say this is probably a good place to watch a soccer game as they had a nice size TV with Bein Sports on. Oh no, my stomach is starting to hurt as I finish this.

Obsessed is an understatement!! This is my favorite lunch spot during the work week. Food comes out quick and is always fresh and satisfying. I normally get a shrimp burrito -wet, or Ensenada fish tacos. The pinto beans and white rice are addictive and I normally don't even like beans! Good salsa bar, too. I'm drooling just thinking about it... Maybe I'll go tomorrow :)

The tacos are good that is if you like Americanized tacos. The place is always crowed but you will always find a place to seat. The prices are high for tacos I got the two tacos rice and beans and it was 8 plus dollars which I found it to be really high for the type and quantity of food.

  • Helen P.

The fish tacos here are nothing special. The fish was dry and the sauce was just OK. It costs $3.25 per fish taco. It was small. I think that is a bit overpriced for what you are getting and compared to other places. I don't understand the rave reviews. I don't think I would come here again.

Excellent food! We ordered fish, shrimp, and carne asada tacos. They were so yum! The blackened fish was seasoned perfect. I would recommend the roasted salsa. It has a little kick and adds perfect flavor to your dish. Both the black beans and pinto were equally good. The service was quick and pleasant. We live over 50 miles away nut would easily make the trek for these tacos.

My two best friends have been raving about this place for awhile, so last week I drove over to meet one of them here for her lunch break. Line was out the door! For how busy they were, they know how to turn out the food fast. I ordered a combo plate with a shrimp taco, cheese enchilada (with green sauce instead of red), black beans (instead of pinto) and the white rice that my friends having been obsessing over. Everything was great! Large portion of food for only $8, I would rather come here than a chain sit down Mexican place any day! My shrimp was cooked in a white wine and garlic butter sauce, and it was amazing. I like that the soft taco was flour instead of corn. Great taco. The enchilada was also very good. I really liked the green sauce they have. The black beans were just black beans, nothing special here. The white rice that I have been hearing about for months was also really good. It's cooked in butter or something...not sure what the seasoning is, but I now see why my friends love it so much! Bummed there isn't a location closer to my house, but I can see myself driving to the Santa Ana location to get food again...soon!

Tried this place for the first time yesterday and nearly didn't because the line was out the door. The place is popular and the first indication as to why was how quickly that lines moved. I was ordering in minutes! The ordering process was quick and easy. I got the Ensenada Fish Tacos as a combo, got my number, picked a table and went to get my soda. Before I could get back to my table, my food was there! This place is fast! The tacos were very good (fish, slightly sweet flavor in there, fresh cabbage, interesting in a good way), the rice perfectly cooked and the pinto beans delicious. Again, the service was wonderful!!! I will return!!!

Is it cheap? No. At first, I thought the prices were a bit steep for a taqueria. After I received my combo plate, ( I swapped out my rice for a salad). I felt different. The portions are generous. Tastes like homemade Mexican food. Some of the best Mexican food I've had at a fast food joint. Food is served to you in minutes. Sports playing on TV. And they serve beer. Place is clean and food is fresh.

I have been going to Baja Fish Tacos for several years (and several locations) and it remains a very simple menu executed very well. The latest visit was after we went to the Adopt-A-Pet event at the Irvine Regional Shelter (we didn't) and were trying to figure out what to eat on the way home. The Lake Forest location was right in our path, so we decided to stop in. We received a friendly greeting from behind the counter as we entered and after taking a minute to re-familiarize ourselves with the menu (I don't why I felt the need, it never changes): Most of the menu is tacos, burritos and enchiladas with your choice of protein (Carne Asada, Chicken of Fish). Combos come with White Rice and the choice of Black or Pinto Beans. They also have Ala Carte items, a few salads, a Baja Bowl and appetizers such as Chips and Salsa, Chips and Guacamole, Nachos and a Quesadilla. Keeping the menu simple saves time on ordering and keeps the line moving. My better half ordered the (2) Taco Combo with Carne Asada, White Rice, Pinto Beans and added Cheese to the beans. I ordered the Carne Asada Burrito Combo with White Rice, Pinto Beans and added Cheese to the beans. We paid for our food, took our number and found a place to sit down. The restaurant is about average size and there were a couple of television on showing the National Televised NFL games. Baja Fish has a Salsa Bar which has several types of salsa, lime, cilantro, onions and other items to add to your fare. You never have to wait very long for your food, even though it is made to order and it always comes out hot (except for the guacamole). The Guac and Chips came out first and in my opinion there is just something missing from their guacamole. It just needs a little extra flavor added. There is a good amount for the price, the chips are nice and fresh, but I feel the guacamole is a little bland. The entrees are huge portions and never disappoint. My wife's Carne Asada literally falls out of her tacos and the serving of rice and beans takes up 2/3s of the plate. She is never able to finish all the rice. My burrito is the same as the tacos, packed full of protein and everything else. If you order a combo here, you should never leave hungry. Rohlinism: I really shouldn't eat the whole thing, but I can't help myself! My one suggestion to this place would be ... don't change a thing! If it isn't broke, don't fix it. Everything here works and more establishments should use the K.I.S.S. rule as part of their business model.

I absolutely love this place!!! I work very close by and come for lunch. Yesterday I ordered take out for our whole office (12 people). The ordering process was very easy. They gave us everything exactly how we wanted and they did it on time and helped take everything to my car. The food was amazing and we even have some for lunch today! Thanks again to everyone who works there! Keep up the awesome work!

Came on a Friday at 1:40 and the line wasn't that bad. They work really quick and food was served quickly. The guy at the counter spoke pretty fast. I just ordered the fish taco Ensenada style and added rice and black beans $5.50. I also got chips and guacamole ($6.00).

5 stars, because six isn't an option. I didn't know I was a fish taco guy until coming here. Their ingredients are top notch, as are their recipes. That makes for an outstanding outcome.

What is there not to say about Baja!? Killer food, nice staff, and of course- amazing salsa. I eat here routinely and have ordered a variety of meals and have never been anything short of impressed. The service here is also really great compared to the service at the foothill/mission viejo area Baja. Personally I love their green chicken enchiladas, steak, and shrimp tacos. chips and guac is another must! Keep up the good work guys, glad you are so close by!!

Some of the best Mexican food in Orange County. I've tried just about everything on the menu; you really can't go wrong! Highly recommended!

Had it last night for the first time. Dude can I say it's better than Baja Fresh, Wahoos Fish Tacos, Chipotle, and any other freshmex place I didn't mention?!!! A bunch of food for fair price but taste and quality better than the rest. Salsa says a lot and yummy and fresh grub. I'll go back exclusively instead of all these other places.

Way over rated and over priced. This place is close to my office. So I tried it a couple of times based on Yelp reviews. Both times it sucked. The food is average at best and they charge way too much for it. The place is always dirty and smells like dirty mop water. I hope the same guy that wrings the mop didn't make my burrito. Second thought it may improve it. Seriously, this place is lame. Luckily some new places opened up in the same shopping center.

Real quick, these guys work hard and fast and I'm always happy with the grub, delicious!

Awesome food! If you love Wahoos than you will love Baja Fish tacos! It's like a fresher better version of Wahoos, but less choices. Their fish is 10X better tasting than wahoos, in my opinion.

Usually come here for lunch during work. Best to call ahead and order. Sometimes the wait can be a little long if you come during busy hours. I usually order the shrimp soft taco which is delicious. The shrimp is grilled and the sauce is kinda like sour cream to me with a kick. Had a lot of feta cheese in it too which was a bit much but overall its good if not a little messy. Also has lettuce, cucumber and tomato in it and by the end its usually dripping all over my hand. Was about $4. Have also ordered the carne asada soft taco but I dont really like corn tortillas as much. A little plain too as it didnt have any sauce it in. Just carne asada and some lettuce I think. Overall will come back since its so closeby if im ever craving mexican.

This place is honestly amazingly good. We drive up here from San Diego just to eat here. Being Mexican I can tell you this food has the feel of a home cooked meal. I always get the carne Assad taco plate with pinto beans and it never fails. I would recommended anyone to eat here if they are hungry and in the area.

I have been coming here for quite some time now and I am currently in second place on yelp check in review for this business I constantly come here and I get the fish tacos alacarte to save some money and I sit as close to the salsa bar as possible it's a very healthy meal for the price and I highly recommend it if you're in the area. The salsa bar is always fresh and the food here is very fresh and smells good. Sometimes you can tell the fish has a fishy odor. I havnt had that exerience here as of yet - the limes are fresh so a squirt or 2 will juice it well.

This place is ok but kinda pricey! The portions are huge tho so if you want to share you can.

Great grilled shrimp soft taco $4.50. Deveined shrimps, flavorful, with slighly larger flower tortilla lightly grilled making it crispy. Meh charbroiled fish taco $3.25. A piece of flavorless charbroiled fish on typical small size corn tortilla. Won't get it again. Serves fast. Salsa area is clean. Will def. Go back.

This would be my favorite taco place if I lived in the area. The food was very fresh and the food came out fast even though there was a full house. I had the combo with 2 great fish tacos and an extra shrimp taco. Before we go home I will pass on the combo and will only have at least 2 of the amazing, best ever and wishing I could eat more shrimp tacos. Please come to Phoenix.

Hands down my favorite place to grab quick mexican food!! The quality is consistent from location to location. I highly recommend the ensenada style fish tacos!! Best I have had to date! The rice is ridiculously delicious! But more importantly, the service is remarkable. No matter how busy, the employees are efficient and pleasant. In a world where great customer service is a hard thing to come by, Baja Fish Taco has it nailed...they never miss a beat..when you are waiting for your order Togo there is a constant communication. .and when it has taken too long, they are apologetic and like tonight..the gal tossed in some guacamole and chips on the house for the inconvenience. I was content waiting, I could see they were very busy but she knew (despite having a line out the door from her register) I had been waiting a while. That is the difference and will keep me coming back ..of course the great food is a bonus! Thanks!

I have been eating here for about 7 years now. Every time the food is good and taste the same. Consistency is very hard to find. Ensenada tacos are insanely good. Blackened Fish, Shrimp, Chicken and Carne Asada are all equally excellent The portions are large and the rice is so good. Melts in your mouth. There is s fresh salsa bar and i could honestly eat that with chips alone, its so good. Their champagne salad dressing is some of the best i have had. This is a must have.

Not sure about the hype. I was so excited to try a place with fish tacos and ratings this high! The shrimp taco had so much cotija cheese on there it was too salty for me (and I am one who puts extra salt on things!)! I scraped it off and into my tasteless beans and rice, which helped those! Everything was fresh and good, but nothing special.

  • Brian C.

The food could use more spice and the ordering counter is set up a bit strangely and doesn't have much room for people when they're busy but this is a nice option in the area for a quick lunch that's not too bad for you. The people were nice and I'd rather bus my own table rather than leave dirty plates on a table until a worker comes by but overall I'd go back to Baja Fish Tacos the next time I'm in the area.

For Orange County, this is about as good as it gets. That's meant to be a compliment but take it for what you will. Rice is pretty darn good. Being Asian, who would have thought I would ever say that since I eat it so damn much as it is. Beans are money too and the dishes are just right. Great portions, salsa bar, friendly service, tasty food... Makin' me hungry just talking about it.

Woo, the line for this place was out the door and into the parking lot when I rolled up at 12:30pm -- that alone really scared me; thoughts were going through my head like "man, they MUST be good" or "I hope they're not slow"! I almost turned around and went somewhere else because I didn't think I'd make it back to work in time. But, I ended up staying, I made it back to work in time and they were surprisingly not slow considering how many people were in here. I ordered one Charbroiled Fish Taco, one Carne Asada Taco and an order of chips and salsa. I'm normally not a fish fan at all, but I figured I'd have to try one out since it's their name sake after all. Fish Taco was so flippin' GOOD. Fish was cooked just right that I barely had to chew it for it to fall apart in my mouth. Good amount of flavor, salsa and cheese on the taco too. The Carne Asada Taco was just like any other Carne Asada Taco I've tried from various Mexican Joints. Nothing to much to brag about there. The chips were simply amazing! But, I learned my lesson that two tacos from Baja Fish Tacos are big enough to fill me up. I honestly could have done without the chips -- unless I'm sharing them with someone obviously. All in all, tasty meal! Service was A++ in my book. I had my meal to me in less than five minutes -- I thought I'd have to wait longer considering how busy they were. Employees were constantly walking about, cleaning tables and asking if you need anything. Decor of the place was a little weird with random masks hanging on the wall. Two TVs were playing news and sports games. Clean bathroom (yes!). All in all, I loved this place! I'll be back sometime soon. But, next time I'll go before noon or after 1 to avoid the lunch rush!! Cheers!

As a transplant from the Midwest fish tacos were somewhat of an enigma to me but after dining at your Bristol location for years our office moved to Lake Forest, excited to find your store was close by. We frequent your store almost one time a week and I have to say the food is by far better than Wahoos (which is good but doesn't touch Baja). The service in the Lake Forest locations is top-notch and we are always served great food, fast and if the restaurant is crowded your helpful staff always manages to find room for us no matter what size group we arrive with. 4 Stars BFT!

Oh yeah I really like this place. Call me silly, but my favorite thing here is the rice. But I've even seen people come in and just order a plate of rice. Its simple but reminds me of mom's rice so I love it. Aside from that, the ensenada style fish tacos is the way to go. I pretty much order the same thing every time. I've seen the other food come out to other patrons and it all looks good but I just can't pass up my fish tacos when I'm there. My one and only gripe: the staff look pretty miserable to be there. A smile really couldn't hurt.

Excellent fresh food! The blackened fish tacos are fabulous and cooked perfectly. A great local find! Fast service, great salsas.

The food is great! I love the pinto beans.. Portions are big if you ask for a combo. Love the carne asada, and grill fish.. have not tried chicken.. not a fan of chicken! They do have big screen tvs, and wireless. writing my review as I eat! Parking can be challenging specially closer to 12:00 pm and so will the lines.. To me are a 5 stars.. but if you arrive closer to 12:00 pm you might be on line waiting outside.. that will make it a 4 for me.. but, I always get here early!

After just discovering this place, I'm kicking myself for not knowing or hearing about it earlier! This is my families kind of Mexican food, fresh, tasty, and generous- the salsa bar is awesome- nice clean restaurant - I also tried the one in Norco, and it was awesome too! My only complaint is that the red sauce can be a bit salty, and the "garlic" shrimp could use more garlic! But we Love this place!!!

  • James P.

Love the shrimp burrito! The ingredients are extremely fresh and the salsa bar is amazing. However most of the time I go for a light lunch so I get the unwrapped burrito! The amount of avocado is very generous and the champagne vinaigrette is very tasty. One of my go to joints for lunch during work!

This place has great salads with great grilled fish. I really love there burritos there as well. It is a little expensive, however, it is really good. It is way better than rubios, without a question. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

We ordered carne asada tacos, fried fish taco, chips & guacamole. Everything is salty. Will not come back. Jalapeño restaurant is way better.

The blackened fish enchilada is the best I've ever had at this place! They have good quality & freshest ingredients that always compliment the flavor. I can't write anything about any other dish because I'm always getting the same thing, but I tell you this place is always packed. That means the other stuff on the menu are great as well!

Way to expensive for simple tacos. I could get better tacos from a truck for a dollar a piece. Now to the reason it got one star...the beans! I got the pinto beans and I have never been more grossed out. The are white in color which is not good. The looked like little balls of skin. I ate some despite the fact that the looked nasty. I don't know how you can make something that has no flavor and at the same time taste horrible. Will not be back. I don't know why I ever went there in the first place...

I tried this place out because of its high rating but apparently I must have tried the wrong thing! I ordered the $16 salad (yes $16 Baja salad with shrimp) I was expecting something amazing for that amount of money but boy was I disappointed. It was salad with shrimp on top granted there were quite a few shrimp but the salad was so boring. I was expecting maybe chips or a tostada shell or something beyond the lettuce and shrimp for $16 but that just wasn't the case. I'm not sure if I would go here again but I definitely would not order the salad

This place is good. You can't go wrong with your decision from the menu, but if you want my opinion, get the blackened fish. In a burrito or taco, they are the best. This location can be busy at times but that's expected due to having great food. It's easy to find and even though there is a lot of parking you can find yourself driving around to find an open parking spot. The staff is always friendly if you are either dining in or placing an order over the phone, and let me tell you that they are quick to get you your food

Ordered two shrimp tacos here and they were delicious!!!!! The shrimp had a great flavor to them and the sauce was excellent. I am so glad this is by my work because there are so many other things I now want to try on their menu.

Shrimp tacos, the end. There's really no point in getting anything else here, the shrimp tacos are so good why would you waste stomach space with anything else? First you get a ton of shrimp in one taco. It comes with this cream sauce, cojita cheese, and cabbage. I like how well everything balances on this taco, the spices with the cheese and sauce, and the crunch of the cabbage. They serve it on a flour tortilla which makes sense for this because I think a corn tortilla would overwhelm the taco, it already has a lot of flavors and textures going on on it. The fish tacos would be my second bet, I usually get it blackened. Carne asada is average, you can go to any other decent Mexican places for better if that's what you're looking for. Although guac does come standard on the carne asada tacos so that's a plus. They have a fresh salsa bar too. It has fresh pico and two salsas, a smokey red one and a green salsa, all delicious compliments to whatever you get.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
